Thousands of years before the Liyue of today, stood the Liyue of the past, majestic and prosperous. Common people mingled in towns and villages all over the nation, Liyue Harbour a bustling city of commerce and business. The relationship between the people of Liyue and Celestia was strong, the bond between the people and the Adepti even stronger. It seemed nothing could come between the people of Liyue and the path to everlasting prosperity.

Suddenly, when all seemed to be going well, the Archon war hit. Thousands of families were devastated, killed while fleeing from the crossfire of the warring Archons. The Adepti, while fighting on Rex Lapis' side, also helped as much as they could to help citizens to safety.

Blood was shed, painting the sky, seas and land red in a bloody massacre. Hundreds of years of slaughter blurred into thousands, blood mixed with blood. It was never sure whether the blood staining people's clothes was holy blood, commoner blood or the blood of monsters. It had blurred over time. Blood was blood, the death seemed to have no end.

Until suddenly, after around two thousand years of pain, slaughter and death, the current seven Archon's emerged victorious, all others slain and cut down or trapped beneath their own land.

The death had ended.

But our story is not about the Archons or the Archon war.

No, our tale is about a mere human, who managed to survive the Archon war, and live on to this day, only in the most cursed way.

Our tale is of a young human named y/n.

(づ◕‸◕)づ

Y/n was a late teen-young adult when the Archon war started. At around the age of 18-20, they were ready to go out into the world and make their mark on it. They weren't sure what they wanted to do, but they knew they wanted to do something that allowed them to protect people.

When they were young, their father said to them, "If you aren't able to protect others, how are you able to protect yourself? If you can protect others, then you can be sure that you are a good enough person to protect yourself."

They built themselves around that, helping and protecting others whenever they could, from making sure the girl who lived opposite them got home safe when she took the more dodgy route home to fending off hilichurls for any wandering travellers who needed it. They helped anyone and everyone.

When the Archon war began, they threw themselves into the midst of the battle. But soon it became apparent that the Archons wouldn't stand for a mere human with no military experience fighting for them, it was risky and life-threatening. But y/n desperately wanted to help, they couldn't just stand and watch.

They decided to battle any monsters that came across more secluded places, places where the Archons couldn't see them fight. They fought well and skilfully, but every warrior must at some point meet their match.

Demons weren't unheard of in Liyue but they were rare and so y/n never expected they would run into one. When they encountered a strong demon one day, they never intended to fight. They planned to run. But a human is no match for a demon and this one quickly caught up with them. The demon was wounded though, and not able to fully kill y/n. Instead, it decided to subject them to the cruelest of fates. A fate worse than death.

It possessed them, which meant that as long as the demon was not exorcized from y/n's body, they would live on, they would live through hundreds of lives, make friends only to lose them again. Find a lover only to have them die in what seemed like a breath. Years did not feel long, they felt like a day, the nightmare never ended. With fruitless searching, no exorcist was strong enough to rid them of this curse.

The only thing that benefited them from this was that they had received a vision during their battle with the demon. Just before they met their fate, a glowing, ice blue vision had appeared before them. Celestia had heard their last cry for help. Alas, it still wasn't enough to save them. Even though in the decades to come, they would rely heavily on their vision to win battles for them, it still served as a cruel reminder of the day they were stripped of their humanity. From then on, they lost all sense of themselves. They didn't view themselves as human. They weren't worthy of being called human.

A side effect to this was that they were every so often plagued with bouts of violence. They would kill the innocent. This was another of the demon's ways of punishing them. There was no escape.

So they lived on for thousands of years, up until the Liyue of today. They saw the nation be knocked down and rebuilt, squashed and reshaped. They saw it become the Liyue they now knew. The Liyue in which our story takes place.
