Sans POV

You were definitely hiding something. He could just tell. The way you seemed so amazed by cars and the streets screamed strange to him. Sans didn't really like you either. Sure, you seemed naive but when it came down to it you were just as dangerous as the other humans.

Sans caught on pretty quick that humans were vile creatures. They locked away monsters just because they were different and talked down to them for years.

And the worst part, humans killed monsters.

He could remember it like it was just yesterday. Papyrus's red scarf laying in the snow, judgment hall, that knife, those small red eyes.

His eyes shifted towards Frisk as he walked beside you. That rotten kid killed Papyrus. His poor little brother, dusted in the snow. Many times. But here they were today, as if none of it ever happened, and he ended up being the only one who remembered those events. It haunted him like an attached spirit.

Sans looked at you as he shuffled. He decided to ask you a simple question to start off and then end it with a warning.

"ya ever been to grilbys, kid?"

He was just trying to tell what was up with you. You seemed so strange to him, like you were lying through your teeth the whole time. His mind traveled back to when you told Papyrus that you were homeless and that your parents were in some serious accident. When you said that, Sans could sense that you were lying. You were lying to his brother. And his brother believed it. Papyrus offered you a living space in their home. The place where they were supposed to feel safe. Safe from all the hatred towards their kind and all the judgment. Sans hated the idea of a human living with them, but he couldn't tell his brother that. Papyrus had always been the kind of guy to want to help someone, even if that someone wasn't the best person.

And when you hugged Papyrus. He could feel his eyelights widen and his soul flare up. Sans was prepared to strike. When you had jumped up for that hug, he reached his hand out of his pocket, just in case you were going to do what he thought you would. But you didn't. You hugged Papyrus lovingly.

Many humans were afraid to touch monsters, even if just for a second. But you spun that skeleton around in an excited hug and gave him thanks. That was rare to Sans. However, he couldn't be sure that you weren't a threat to them. He knew that a human could appear kind and loving and still be rotten on the inside. The kid had showed him that already.

"Nope. Is the food good?"

Your words pulled him out his thoughts as he searched for a decent response.

"yah it's pretty good. has good ketchup." He knew you were going to question him about the ketchup part so he decided to just cut to the chase.

"listen kid, i wanna get straight to the point. humans haven't been very kind to papyrus in the past. always calling us "trash" and shit to try and scare us back into the mountain. and since your human it makes it hard for me to trust ya. so if i find out you hurt my bro, you are gonna have a bad time. trust me."

He made sure to intimidate you. If you were going to be around him and his brother, you had to know the consequences of hurting Papyrus would be dire. And he showed you that by making his eyelight glow when he said his catchphrase.

After he gave you your warning, he started shuffling faster so he could avoid sticking around with you. Eventually, he caught up to Toriel and Frisk and when he did he slowed back down to his original lazy pace.

Sans knew that you were thinking about what he said. And he was glad.

think long and hard about it.....
