a buzz in her pocket poked y/n's attention. it was a text message from kuroo: 'we're starting in 15 minutes' her heart skipped a bit typing quickly, 'good luck!' feeling a hint of excitement and anxiety, she made her way to the gym.
the gym was already filled with energy when y/n arrived. the audience cheered even stronger as nekoma and karasuno entered the court, the two teams drew attention with their confidence and focused expressions. y/n ran to find her seat in the audience where her fellow members in nekkopen were busy setting up to document and write about the match.
the editor-in-chief clapped her hands to gather everyone's attention. "alright, guys," uchida mai called out, "let's make sure to capture the highlights, okay? this is going to be an intense match."
everyone nodded at the chief, and y/n pulled our her notebook, getting ready to write down the highlights and observations. the atmosphere inside the gymnasium was a bit overwhelming as it is her first time to witness a volleyball match.
as the other members were still warming up, y/n watched the captains of nekoma and karasuno shake hands at the side of the court. the friendly match is about to begin—and the first serve goes to karasuno's setter, kageyama tobio.
y/n knew who he was because they went to the same junior high school together, but they never had any interactions because the boy, despite his great skills in volleyball, had an aloof personality.
"damn! what a fucking serve," someone from the audience muttered as kageyama succeeded a service ace, setting the tone for the intense showdown between two teams.
the match had officially begun. each point was fiercely contested as nekoma and karasuno clashed with fiery determination.
y/n couldn't help but to notice karasuno's number 10, whose combination with kageyama's set had always been a success so far.
the teams' scores were always close to each other, setting y/n at the edge of her seat.
the crowd cheered louder and louder as the two liberos, yaku and nishinoya, both did a great job at saving the ball. lev's towering blocks also challenged karasuno's middle blocker, tsukishima, when he blocked asahi's spike.
both teams were evidently doing their best to impress their crowd.
"oh my god! did you see kenma's set?" y/n whispered to uchida. the set was completed by kuroo's winning spike, ending the first set with nekoma winning with being 2 points ahead.
nekoma clinched the first set with great teamwork. the crowd erupted into a deafening cheer, echoing off the walls of nekoma's gym.
amidst the uproar, kuroo's gaze scanned through the crowd until it settled to y/n, who was standing beside the camera. with a confident smile, he muttered softly. "that one's for you," he winked, his words drowned amidst the cheers. y/n felt her stomach tickled, her admiration for kuroo's skills and dedication as the team captain deepens each moment.
"did you capture that, sota-kun?" a knowing smile played on the editor-in-chief's lips.
sota haruki, nekkopen's photojournalist, grinned mischievously, checking the photos in the camera. "i surely did capture that wink," he replied teasingly.
