y/n placed her hands on her face out of frustration. "what the hell? why is this match so intense?" feeling overwhelmed, she turned to uchida. "isn't this supposed to be a friendly match?"
uchida laughed as she glanced at the scoreboard. "it's always like this when nekoma plays a friendly match with another school. they never want to lose."
the third set had already reached its climax. nekoma was leading at 27 points, and karasuno at 26. the crowd roared as the teams battled each points fiercely. she couldn't take off her eyes from the court as kuroo and lev stood by the net, ready to block tanaka's spikes. his spikes blocked nekoma from winning the second set and led karasuno to victory.
"ike ike nekoma! ose ose nekoma!"
y/n clenched her fists, barely keeping up with the fast-paced game. her fellow members at nekkopen were just as frustrated despite their pens and cameras in action.
suddenly, kuroo and lev jumped together, joined by inuoka, blocking a powerful spike from tanaka, hindering another tie. the ball hit the floor on karasuno's side. with the sound of the whistle, nekoma had won the match.
nekoma's fans cheered at their school's victory. y/n also couldn't help but to cheer along, feeling happy.
after the match ended, y/n, along with the editor-and-chief and their photojournalist went to kuroo for an interview. the camera was set up, and sota gave the signal. "okay, camera's ready, phone's ready. 3, 2, 1... go!"
taking a deep breath, y/n began the interview. "congratulations on the win, kuroo-san! what can you say about today's match against karasuno?"
kuroo met her gaze and answered confidently. "today's match was intense. karasuno has greatly improved since the last time we had our friendly match. i am proud of how our team handled the pressure and worked together to secure the victory," he stated, never leaving y/n's eyes. "also, the girl that i like was watching the game, so that hyped me up to win," he added with a playful grin.
y/n felt a rush of warmth flood her cheeks. she was caught off guard by his unexpected confession.
despite feeling a bit shy, the interview continued by asking them how they prepared and what were the ups and downs during the preparation. other members on the team joined in, and they had a group photo in the end shot by sota.
"thank you, kuroo-san," y/n said, closing her phone where she voice recorded the interview, "i enjoyed the game."
"glad you did," kuroo replied, holding up his hand for a high five. y/n hesitated at first but then high-fived him back.
the boy grinned and ruffled her hair. "cute," he chuckled. "we should take a picture together."
before she could even respond, kuroo already called out to yaku. "hey, yaku! can you take a picture of us?"
yaku walked over, smiling, holding kuroo's phone. "okay, lovebirds, say cheese!"
y/n felt her face turn red as kuroo's arm wrapped around hers, but she smiled and posed for the picture as yaku took a few shots.
"thanks, yaku," kuroo said, then turned to y/n with a warm smile. "and thank you for coming, y/n." he waved goodbye before leaving with his team.
y/n was already at the bus, her mind still thinking about the game as well as kuroo's confession earlier. he doesn't really mean it, right? or maybe he was referring to someone else?
just then, she received a text message from him.
