Clay POV.
“Why can’t we go to the car?” He questioned, clearly feeling annoyed as his body rested against the rough bark of the tree. “It would be much more comfortable, plus all of your stuff is there.”
“They’ll find us.” My eyes were dim, emotionless as I responded. “It’ll be harder for them to find us if we are walking away from the road.”
The brunette seemed confused, his brows furrowed as he sat and watched me. I, in return, watched George as I paced back and forth, trying to come up with a way to get George and I out of this complex. The idea that they created a complex for a TV show was honestly baffling for me, I don’t know how I didn’t call this out earlier.
“What kind of show is this?” He asked in response. “You are talking as though they are going to hunt us down, as though we’re animals.”
“They will hunt us down.” I confirmed, scaring the pretty boy.
I continued to pace, and continued to think to myself, watching as he freaked out. “How do you know that they’ll do this?” George questioned. “What makes you so sure that they will take us back? Perhaps if we asked, they’ll let us go. I just need to say ‘I don’t want to be on the show anymore’.”
“They won’t let you.” I answered blatantly. “If you do something they don’t like they’ll drug you so you forget before sending you home.”
“Really?” He asked, feeling uncertain.
“They did it when you found out about Fundy cheating on you.”
“No they didn’t.” He quickly responded, growing agitated as he crossed his arms. “I left to go to that field where you and Karl both found me.”
“That was the second time. The first time you found out, got drugged, and woke up with no memories of what was happening.”
He shuddered, not liking the thoughts that came up with the information that I had given him. Under his breath he muttered something which I wasn’t able to understand, and I didn’t try to either. The two of us were back to just being quiet.
Neither of us spoke or did anything and suddenly I smiled. “I think that I have an idea.” I hummed, a determined look on my face.
“An idea for what?” George stood up, moving to stand near me.
“An idea on how to get you out of here.”
Jimmy POV.
“People are starting to get worried.” Nolan stated, lowering the phone that he had been speaking into. “A few of our sponsors are calling, they are worried they are losing money with the investments.”
“Tell them to hold on.” I responded, not taking my eyes off of the cameras.
“They have been holding on. From the moment that the show went off air. You need to talk to people or make a statement soon Jimmy.”
“I already told them that he is sick.” I grumbled, my gaze hardening into a glare which I directed at the cameras.
“And they don’t believe it.” Now it was Chandler speaking up, he was also holding a phone. We were dealing with so many issues that they, along with Kris and many of my other staff members, had started to take calls to deal with the rush.
“We’ve had these kinds of issues before.” I hummed. “Like when George discovered that Fundy had been cheating on him, or that panic attack after he tried marijuana and fell into the stream. Nobody complained then.”
“Because we only cut the camera for half an hour to get him to a hospital.” Chandler began.
Kris set the phone down and sighed. “This has already been three hours. They could be anywhere in the dome by now. We should hurry up and send out search teams.”
“Sure.” I sighed. “If it’ll mean that they’ll stop complaining.” They all didn’t stop talking with the people they were talking with yet it was clear they could hear,
I was attempting to analyse the cameras, watching to see if I could track either Clay or George. Unfortunately we didn’t have any of the cameras in the woods since we never thought that this would happen. The last shot we could see was from two hours ago as they were driving off.
Sadness flowed through me as I looked at George. For years I had made sure he had a good life, one where he was with a boyfriend who was kind, friends who’d always be there, and a fun and enriching job. Sure sometimes he would go through some tough times at my hand, but that was just to continue to enrich him, to see his problem solving skills.
Nothing that I did had any malice behind it, nor any ill intent. Yet still Clay had taken George from his safe controlled life in the dome and was wanting to take him outside where the world was cruel and unknown and dangerous. Looking at his face in the camera I could see George’s fear and worry.
If I had the chance I would kill Clay for what he was doing to the brunette. I swore on it, if he ever dared to put him at risk. Even if it made me appear like a psycho, I continued to curse out the blond, however that was hidden from the others beneath my stoic expression.
“They want to know if you’ve tried tracking them down with GPS.” Kris hummed, moving the phone so that whoever was on the other end would not be able to hear her talking to me.
“Of course we have.” I answered, gaze not drifting from the screen. It was one of the first things that I had tried, and it obviously hadn’t worked.
“Just checking…” She muttered before returning the phone to her ear as she continued to talk. As I continued to grow impatient I threw my head back in an annoyed grumble. The voices of my three usual friends overlaid each other, getting more and more irritating with every word, even if I was unable to make them out.
I stood up, chair falling back and all of them went silent at the suddenness of my actions. “I’m going to go out and try to look for him.” I stated. “If we want this search over quicker it would be good to have more people involved.”
“Are you sure?” Nolan asked, and I watched as a finger drifted down to hang up his call.
I didn’t give him an answer, instead just turning and walking out of the room, hearing the quick shuffling of footsteps following me out.
