Chapter 17

Nina found herself in an unfamiliar location, but it felt like she knew where she was. Someone was holding her hand, and as she turned to the left, she found Felix standing next to her.

“Where are we?” she asked him as she continued to look around her surroundings. They were in the middle of what looked like an old building with really high ceilings made of glass. If she had to guess, she would say she was in the spiritual realm, though she had never been to this side.

“We are in the spiritual realm,” Felix responded. “I didn’t think any human could come to this side. This side is specifically for fairies, and only powerful ones can really pop up anywhere. Most of them appear in dedicated rooms for visitors. What exactly are you?” he asked.

“Last I checked, I’m just a witch. I do visit my spiritual guide in the land of my ancestors, but I’ve never seen anything like this. This place looks like a mystical city in a faraway land with really good tech,” she said, giving Felix a once-over from head to toe, wondering exactly what kind of fairy he was. “I guess it’s my turn to ask you: what exactly are you? Because if you’re not popping up into a dedicated room, does that mean you’re a senior here? How exactly does the fairy spiritual realm work?” Nina looked Felix directly in the eye, waiting patiently for his reply.

Before Felix could respond, a young blonde man who looked similar to Felix approached them quickly. Nina pulled her hand away from Felix and stood still, waiting for the young man.

“Hello,” the man said. “We got a notification about a disturbance and I was sent here to guide you during your stay. You can call me Nick, and anyone else here will respond to that name and help you if they can.”

“So this is a new case,” Nick continued. “We haven’t seen a human on this side of the realm in a very long time. You triggered a few alarms on your ancestral side, and they said Lulu will be on the way as soon as she's free. So, you’re stuck with me for the time being,” Nick said. “I’ll take you to where you will be resting as we try to solve what is going on.”

“Can you tell us why we’re here together?” Felix asked. “I would have thought that Nina would go to the human side and visit her ancestors instead of coming to this side. Does anyone have an idea of what is happening?”

“What we know is that you are back on Earth unconscious and your soul is kind of trapped here. That’s the only explanation I was told to give you, so don’t ask me for more because I don’t know anything,” Nick said.

They walked quietly through a maze of corridors and suddenly came to an opening which led to a beautiful garden with a water feature in the middle. Nina felt peaceful the moment she stepped into the garden.

Even though she knew that it was a mystical garden, it felt quite real, with birds chirping and rustling leaves as the wind gently passed through them. She walked towards a bench and sat down to take in the beauty of the garden.

“Someone will come here to talk to you, but for the time being, please don’t wander around,” Nick said. He turned around and left Nina and Felix in the garden. Felix was still standing right at the entrance, looking quite uncomfortable and a little bit angry.

Nina was too fascinated with the fairies and the different kinds that there were to bother looking at Felix. She knew that there were many different kinds of fairies, but seeing how some of them had different kinds of wings in different colors and sizes was quite captivating.

She turned around and looked at Felix, wondering why he didn’t have wings. It was normal for fairies to hide their wings, but she thought that, since they were in the spiritual realm, he would have his wings out. Maybe he didn’t have wings… There were legends that said some fairies got the gift of teleportation; they had only to imagine where they wanted to go and they could get there.
