There's a story in the Bible where God talked with a boy named Samuel, telling him information that otherwise would have been unknown. In the inspiration of that story, and since I needed a way to incorporate scripture into this book, God speaks to Ruby very clearly so she can understand who made the world.
Now, I'm sure God speaks to people in relevant human language, but I've never heard His voice speaking into my ear. Maybe other people hear Him speak like that, but for me, it's more of a small conviction telling why I should or shouldn't do something or which direction to take. It's not always clear, but it's real.
However, I can also hear other 'voices' telling me different things, but those are usually myself or Satan desiring to do something unnecessary and sinful to God. That's why I read the Bible every day to remember what God would and wouldn't say.
Samuel's story can be found in 1 Samuel 3:1-14.
But there's more than that!
Here's a scripture about a man named Moses who talked with God: " . . . God called unto him from the midst of the bush and said, 'Moses! Moses!'" And Moses replied, "Here I am." Exodus 3:4.
And here's a scripture of Mary who heard an angel speaking in her ears: ". . . and the angel came to her and said, 'Hail, thou that are highly favored, the Lord is with thee. Bless are thou among women!'" Luke 1:28.
And finally, here's a scripture when God spoke from heaven: ". . . and a voice came from heaven saying 'This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'" Matthew 3:17.
All in all, God speaks to everyone at some point and in different ways.
