Y/n walked beside Hagrid, they approached the edge of the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid's moleskin overcoat billowed around him, and Fang the boarhound bounded ahead eagerly.

"Right then, let's get goin'." Hagrid bellowed as the class caught up. "Got a right treat for yer lot today. Big lesson, this is. Everyone present? Good. Follow me!"

Y/n spotted Harry, Ron, and Hermione, who were already there. Hermione flashed Y/n a wave, while Harry's gaze flickered towards her before looking away. Y/n sauntered off to join her house, and Blaise went and stood next to her.

Hagrid led them through a dense undergrowth, and within minutes, they found themselves at the edge of a fenced paddock. It was empty.

"Gather 'round, gather 'round," Hagrid instructed. "Now, the firs' thing yeh will want to do is open yerbooks."

"How?" drawled a cold voice. It was Draco Malfoy, his lips curled into an impatient line.

"Eh?" Hagrid blinked.

Y/n darted a glance at Malfoy before taking his copy of The book 'Monster Book of Monsters' from his hand and walked away.

"Hey that's mine!!" Malfoy protested, but Y/n ignored him.

The book was bound tightly with a length of rope. Y/n watched as the other students retrieved their own copies, some of them secured with belts.

"Has...has anyone managed to open their books?" Hagrid inquired, looking forlorn.

The class shook their heads in unison. Hagrid's eyes fell on Y/n, who was intently examining Malfoy's book. "Miss Riddle, reckon yeh could give us a demonstration? Yeh know how ter open them?"

"Let's see." Deftly, y/n ran her finger along the spine of the book. It shuddered and sprang open, clattering to the ground.

Hagrid beamed. "Brilliant! Did yeh see that, lot? That's how it's done." Everyone watched and took note.

Harry's smile towards y/n caught her eyes, but her attention was swiftly stolen as Malfoy, stooping to retrieve his fallen book and starts complaining.

"You could've picked it up, Riddle, and handed my book back properly!" he complained, his face flushed with annoyance.

"Apologies. 'Least you know how to open it now." Y/n replied casually, her indifference rivaling his annoyance.

Malfoy, unable to hide his disdain, scoffed and retreated to the stand between his cronies, Crabbe, Goyle, and Pansy.

"And oh, how utterly foolish we've been!" Malfoy sneered, his eyes flickering between y/n and Hagrid. "We should've petted them! Why didn't we think of that?"

"I... I thought they were funny." Hagrid stuttered uncertainly.

"Oh, hilariously funny!" Malfoy retorted sarcastically. "Truly witty, giving us books that practically try to rip our hands off!"

"Shut it, Malfoy." Harry said, his voice quiet and frustrated. He wanted Hagrid's lesson to be successful. Everyone was watching with their mouths agape.

"That's a pity." Y/n continued, her gaze fixed on Malfoy. "I'd like to see how your hands hold up."

"Says the one who didn't bother to bring her own copy of the book!" Malfoy hissed. "You don't even have one!"

"Let's just say 'your' mother failed to procure one for me." Y/n replied, a slight sting in her voice as she recalled how Narcissa Malfoy had been responsible for her journey to the Leaky Cauldron.
