Chapter 9

As I walk away, I keep wondering about that stupid scroll. In my mind I see the jellyfish tentacles and all I can think about is my Pop. I don't like him a crazy amount. He's a crazy old bat. When I was little, and he would talk about sunken cities I used to think they were fairy tales. Silly stories he would tell me when I was a kid and still had the child like imagination.

Now, with the things I've seen, I'm not so sure.

I open the door to the bridge, my mind still swirling with questions, when Ant jumps on me. Wait what? Wasn't he just behind me?

"Y/N!" He points his finger at me and has a huge smirk on his face. "I wanna know how you made the ephemycron light up!" He stands up straight. "I'm normally the only one who can because-"

"Ant!" I look over to Fontaine and she gives me an apologetic look. I get it, I guess. They don't know me, and therefore can't trust me.

I walk over to a seat and stare at their navigation system. Hey, at least theirs doesn't randomly stop working.

"We've received a distress call." Kaiko says while continuing to pilot. "Let's hope we can take the detour without issue. We must stay on task; whoever this is may be seriously hurt." We begin to move faster, and I buckle up, I'm not about to be flung out of my seat, that's embarrassing.

The family continues talking and we eventually reach where the call came from. When there we meet an old man with a very long grey beard, pushed into bubbles? Yes, I suppose that's the way to describe it. Between the top two bubbles is a bright gold band. He looks old and kind and has wrinkles around his eyes. He sits in an old rowboat, which looks as if might sink.

If you ask me, he could be 6000 years old. Only joking. Of course.

The family let him on board immediately, and we walk to the moonpool where they begin talking. Must be a family friend. I begin to walk away, not wanting to intrude. I wasn't going anywhere in particular, just the bridge.

"Hello Nektons!" Wow. He has a cheerful voice. "And L/N."

I pause. He knows my name? Well, my last name. Why does he know my last name?

I turn back to him and the Nektons with a look of what must be shock.  Most of the Nektons are looking at me suspiciously. I say most because Ant isn't. He's looking at me with wonder. Which is confusing.

"Why don't we move to the bridge. I'm sure Y/N needs to be informed." He smiles, his face crinkling as he does so.

Great. 1, he knows my name. 2, I could have stayed in the bridge and ignored all the weirdness.

When we make it back to the bridge Nereus, that's the old guy, has me sit down and touch the ephemycron again. It lights up, just like before, and just as blinding. And again, I drop it. On my knee this time.

"Ow!" I yelp as I nurse my knee. Seriously? I don't know what I was expecting. It did it the first time. Of course it'll do it again.

Nereus laughs a little and hands the ephemycron over gently to Ant, and it lights up again.

"I'm sure the Nektons have been wary of you." He says in a... Mysterious tone? Y'know like the characters in movies who know much more then they let on.

I nod, still nursing my knee. Gosh, how is that small thing so heavy?

"I can understand why. Your grandfather isn't the best of people." He says gently stroking his beard.

"Wow, really? I hadn't noticed." I say sarcastically. Listen. I love my pop with all my heart, but he isn't the best.

"Your ancestors were one of few who tried to sink Lemuria."

What? I just stare at them.

"Do you know what Lemuria is?"

"Maybe, maybe not. Why do you want to know?" I cross my arms, and stare even more.

There's a pause.

"If you do, we need to know. Your grandfather may have been training you to unleash the Kraken."

I sit still. Frozen in thought.

The Kraken is real? It's a real thing? As in not fiction?

"Not possible." I say, though I'm unsure. I mean, we were just attacked by a giant whale. Maybe a giant octopus isn't so crazy?

What is crazy is that I would unleash it. The reason being, pop could never get me in the water for longer than two minutes before I panicked because...

...I'm afraid of the ocean.

A/N: I've decided to write this story twice. One will have a Y/N x OC romance (I don't feel comfortable writing Y/N x Characters simply due to age differences and the fact that I imagine Y/N as a brooding teen, and I love Finn and Fontaine), and the other will have the same story minus the romance with Y/N and the OC won't be in it unless asked otherwise, that way people get the choice of what they read. Also the romance wouldn't happen for a while, sorry. I'm not great at writing it either, so apologies there.

I tried to respond to a comment with this information because they expressed an interest in adding romance then I accidently deleted it lol.

The chapters will also continue to be inconsistent; I'll try to keep it to at least a chapter every couple of months though.
