"Her comments affected me. Is it about all women, or is she somehow special?"

-Verdant Menon

✦✧AUTHOR'S  POV ✧✦

The doorbell rang, and Manav opened the gate. The first words he uttered to the person in front of him were,

"Bhai sahab, aap kaun hain?"

He furrowed his brows in confusion, unable to recognize the person standing before him.

The man rolled his eyes and said, "Mujhe nahi pehchana?main tere sir or boss"

Manav's eyes widened as he heard the reply, and the floor beneath him seemed to slip away as realization hit him hard.

He scrutinized the man from every angle—left, right, back, front—before returning to his original position.
"Sir, why the haircut?" he whispered, his voice still tinged with shock.

They had worked together for over three years, and Verdant had never cut his hair short before.

Verdant smiled sheepishly and said confidently, "It wasn't matching my style, aur moreover logo ko mein daku lagta hoon."

It had only been three days since someone (devika )had called him a daku, and he had spent those days deciding on the perfect hairstyle, inspired by Gabriel Guevara.

Shanta came from behind and asked the same question, "Kaun hai manav beta ?kya chahiye apko bhaishab?" This made Manav cough as he tried his hardest to stop himself from laughing.

As the two headed to SGI, the case they were working on was still ongoing. The suspect was trying hard to evade capture, but he didn't know that the case was in the hands of the relentless Mr. Menon.

Next door, the atmosphere was different. Seriousness lingered as she whispered,
"I met him accidentally yesterday, and he forgave me."

Devika, who was ironing her clothes, stopped midway. Her focus shifted from her jeans to Ranjini's face. She switched off the iron and sat on the sofa beside Ranjini.

"Forgiveness? He knows about everything?" Devika asked.

Ranjini nodded, clearing Devika's doubt.

Devika felt a sense of solace after knowing everything. Ranjini was free from the last string of guilt and was now happier, no longer feeling like a culprit.

"So," Devika said teasingly.

"So what?" Ranjini replied innocently, not understanding.

"What if your parents find another groom? Then what will you do?" Devika asked immediately.

For the first time, Ranjini's eyes turned mischievous as she said, "I'll tell them I am l-e-s-b-i-a-n."

Devika's mouth dropped open as she uttered, "Heinnnnn?"

Ranjini nodded, reassuring her that she had heard right. But the next question popped into Devika's mind.

"What if they don't believe this?"

"Then I'll tell them you're my girlfriend, and sometimes we'll act like that so it's easy for them to trust me," Ranjini said, blinking her eyes innocently.
