I remember growing up and always feeling an uncertainty about my parents, especially my dad. He's a puppeteer who uses puppets to put on cute shows at children's parties. He'd force me to go with him so I could be trained in the background as I watched his puppet shows. It must take a lot to think of a plot and stick with the plot but it was never something I was interested in.
My mum, however, never went to work. To keep their marriage, she had to stay at home so we could be a happy family. But it wasn't long until I realised we wasn't. How did I find out? Simple.
My mum always went on trips with us, planning them and everything, so we could have a good experience. She would plan birthday parties, Christmas celebrations and all the sorts in between, even if I can't remember most of them to this day, but the ones I can remember are experiences I'll never forget.
My dad, however, would force me to go with him just to not spend time with me properly. Even on trips, because child me wanted him to be there too, he would only argue with mum about so many silly things and it was those times that would ruin the experiences.
Mum also told me he never paid child support or was with her when I was born. So when I brought it up one day to see if she was telling the truth, he dodged the questions by shouting at me.
I'm glad I'm the only child because I'd feel responsible for all the younger siblings, in a sense of making sure they were raised with all the good experiences.
And then one day, days after turning fifteen, where I had grown up enough to understand his tendencies and all the terrible things he had done during my childhood, dad had locked me in the shed we had outside and must've convinced mum that I had ran away or died, because there were always police sirens.
My mouth was taped shut, along with my hands and legs, as well as shoved into the far corner of the shed so I was never heard, I was unable to make any audible noise for the police to hear me.
Roughly a year passed, no police, no sirens, no rescuer, when the shed door was finally opened. I was freezing and thought I was going to die as I was hoping for a miracle human being to find me, but it was dad.
"Morning, honey. Happy sixteenth birthday," he whispered as tears formed over my eyes, making my vision blurry from his scary stance by the shed door "Your time as my daughter is over," he said as he closed the door and got onto his knees in front of me "But, seeing as you're here, I thought I'd make you my puppet instead. Mum thinks you're dead, long gone, which is perfect for me to use you as a free puppet that will speak for me and be part of my shows."
