"Say hurry up mommy" Vinnie said in a baby voice while holding Ember "I'm coming" I said smiling grabbing the plate of Christmas cookies. We are decorating the Christmas tree together this evening, Vinnie sat Ember in her little baby swing that faced the unlit tree and Gray laid right next to her, he refuses to leave her side whenever he's not outside or eating. "I'm leaving the lights to you" I say handing them to Vinnie "leave the hardest part to me huh?" I give him a smile and then a little peck on the cheek "you win this round Y/n" it took him a little over half an hour to get the lights how he wanted them, he didn't hesitate to give me the tinsel to put on myself.

We plugged in the lights and Ember automatically smiled at them seemingly amazed at something so simple, something so small that makes you wonder when the world starts looking so dull. Vinnie picked her up out of the swing making Gray stand up as well following him like his shadow so she can be apart of decorating the tree, we let her hold the star the whole time we put ornaments on the tree and when it was time for the star Vinnie gently took the star from her and placed it on the top. I plugged it in and it lit up different colors from blue to red to green, I took Ember from Vinnie and made her a bottle. Once she was done I changed her and then bounced her walking around the living room so she could still look at the lights as I hummed her Christmas songs and eventually she fell right asleep.

I put her in her crib then joined Vinnie on the couch he was watching whatever football game was on and eating the cookies I made. I sat next to him and leaned on his shoulder, "I invited Alex and Mike to help decorate the outside of the house tomorrow, "that's fine I'm sure they'll bring Kouvr and Tab to socialize with Ember and I" he hummed in response "my parents want to take Ember for a week as well" I looked up at him "why?" "they thought it would be a good thing for us to have a week alone and really talk about our relationship" "I don't want her states away from me" he smiled a little "my mom thought you might say that so she offered to come stay at the nearest hotel with her" I thought about it for a moment. "That should be alright then" I say while looking down and picking at my nails, Vinnie took my hand and picked my head up to look at him "everything will be okay" he gave me a small smile and I leaned in to kiss him on his cheek "thank you Vinnie."

The next day

"Alex and Kouvr are here!" Vinnie called over his shoulder, Kouvr pushed right passed Vinnie and to the baby swing where Ember was laying watching Gray roam around the living room. "Hi baby" she said to Ember in a baby voice while smiling, "want her?" I jokingly asked as I walked in from the kitchen "I would snatch her up in a heartbeat" we both laughed as I sat down the plate of snacks on the living room table. "Where's Mike?" Vinnie asked "Tab wanted to stop somewhere first he just texted me" Alex replied, there was a second knock on the door but it wasn't Tab and Mike it was Vinnie's mother. Once Vinnie told her that I agreed she got the first flight to LA "oh I'll grab her things" I said hesitantly as I walked to the bedroom, Kouvr followed closely behind me making sure she didn't ask anything until we got well into the bedroom. "Why is Vinnie's mom here?" "She thinks we should reconnect without Ember around for a week" I sniffled as I held back tears, I didn't want my baby to leave "are you as the mother of that sweet baby in there okay with this?" I knew I wasn't and I think Kouvr did to in a way but I stood up straight with her diaper bag and took a deep breath "yeah I'm okay with it."

She gave me a look but didn't say anything else about it, we walked back into the living room where we seen Tab and Mike had arrived with hot chocolate for everyone. I handed Vinnie's mom the diaper bag and then picked up Ember out of her swing. Everyone surrounded her to tell her bye and I gave her a few extra snuggles before handing her over, "I'll help you put out car seat in your rental" Vinnie stated as he walked outside with his mom. Once the doors shut I turned around to face Tab and Kouvr they immediately pulled me into a hug on either side of me confused I touched my face and noticed that I had tears running down my face and didn't even realize it. I felt weird not having my baby around almost numb, and for the rest of the day I felt like a zombie having to force a laugh or smile whenever my friends talked to me.

"Hey are you okay?" Vinnie asked coming up behind me in the kitchen placing his hand gently on the small of my back. I turned my head slightly to the side "I'm fine" I said coldly "Y/n I know when you're not okay" "I just miss my baby Vinnie, she shouldn't be away from me it doesn't feel right" he rubbed my back "how about I go run you a nice bath?" he asked softly. I shook my head then retch out and grabbed my keys from the counter I was leaning over "I'm going for a drive" I said basically rushing out the door and before he could say anything else I got in my car and sped off.
