Six years had passed since the passing of Laena and Laenor Velaryon.
After the events at the dragonpit then the Targaryen's leaving Driftmark, that night her father figure Laenor had been found mutilated, his body burnt and beaten in the hearth of the great hall of Driftmark.
His childhood home.
Valaena held her youngest brother as he wept, Jace stared out of the window refusing to cry glancing at Valaena every once in a while as they had known the truth of their legitimacy. Though that did not mean they held no grief, Laenor was there in their birth, raised them as his own, commissioned their dragons saddles.
But Jace and Valaena were the eldest siblings, they had to stay strong for the young.
When their mother had entered her bedchambers where they all waited to be given the news that they already knew by the screams of their grandmother Rhaenys, Laenor was confirmed dead.
Valaena bit her tongue as her mother revealed that she would marry Daemon Targaryen that same evening. Then it had all made sense as she remembered the proceedings for getting married.
Once her brother's were out of her mother's bedchambers Valaena lingered behind, Daemon had entered, already given the news to his daughters. He stood by the closed door watching Valaena and Rhaenrya.
"Tell me you didn't do it."
Rhaenyra looked at her daughter with confusion, the hurt in her tone caught her off guard. "What do you mean?"
"Tell me that you aren't a monster." The tears welled up from anger as she stared at her mother who stared down at her with a broken expression. "Please tell me that you didn't murder him for this arrangement."
"Valaena," Rhaenrya approached her daughter but for the first time in her life, Valaena stepped back.
"Tell me that you didn't kill Laenor." She demanded.
Rhaenyra started. "We weren't involved-"
"Do you find me brainless?" Valaena glared. "I could handle Ser Harwin being my real father, I can handle the two of you getting married, what I cannot handle is being stared down like a fool. What I cannot handle is my mother killing my second father, so tell me the truth of it."
