Karate Kid(My Shot): Part 8
Today was the day.
Alex's stomach bubbled with so many emotions.
Fear.
Excitement.
Ambition.
The All-Valley Tournament was just hours away. Everything had been building up to this day.
It was do or die. Time to rise up.
Alex had spared time to quickly write in his journal.
-Today is the All-Valley tournament, which means I have to face King Cobra once and for all. Everything Washington has taught me I'll have to utilize.
-I'm doing it for Angelica. So King Cobra leaves her alone. I'm doing it for my friends. So they can see you can stand up for what is right. I'm doing it for the school. To rise up against King Cobra. I'm doing it for Washington. To make him proud, to show him everything he taught me..paid off. Lastly, I'm doing it for myself. No more being a nobody. Just. You. Wait.
Alex got dressed quickly. He packed away the white gi that used to belong to Washington.
"It will fit you perfectly," Washington commented.
"Ready to go," Alex rushed to the door, but Washington grabbed his shoulder.
He looked Alexander in the eyes.
"And Alexander, one more thing," Washington said. "Even if you win or lose today. I'm already so proud of you."
Alex hugged him.
The two had to stop and pick up Angelica. Her and Alex were officially a couple.
"The big day, huh," Angelica grinned as she entered the car.
"Big day, and hopefully a big win too," Alex smirked.
"You got this Alex, I'm sure of it," Angelica encouraged.
During the drive Alex still couldn't believe how far he came. From a poor kid in a lousy apartment being bullied, to...having a home, friends, and love. Now he needed a win. He needed balance.
They arrived.
Alex walked in with Mr. Washington following behind him, a firm and guiding hand on his shoulder. Anyone who saw them would assume they were father and son, not student and master. Angelica was right on their tail.
Angelica motioned them to follow her as she took them through the crowds of people.
"You know the rules right?" Angelica questioned as she stared at Alexander as Washington got him suited up.
The white gi fit like a glove. Washington stared with a proud and reminiscing look.
"I..uh.." Alex went blank. He had never participated in an official tournament before.
"Just remember, no blows above the waist count. No dirty moves," Angelica explained. "Go for clean hits to score points."
Alex nodded firmly as he adjusted his bandana on his forehead, tying his hair back in a ponytail.
"And lastly," Angelica grabbed his arms as she pulled him close. "Remember you got this."
Alex just smiled back. "Just you wait..just you wait.."
The two shared a kiss.
Soon she wouldn't have to wait much longer. Neither would he.
Soon the tournament started.
