On a general note, what does a girl do on her birthday? Umm, go shopping? No I've enough clothes, some of which I haven't even touched yet. Umm, go for a movie or treat my friends? Not possible, they're all scattered. Umm, order a cake? No, already done. It was a bright enough Saturday afternoon but much to me, it was dull. My birthday was boring. Since, I am doctor by profession, my world revolved around patients bustling. Today was different; my husband was so away from me, possibly protecting a bunch of people in the battlefield.

Yes, my Rohan is an army soldier. He always dreamt of it since forever. In fact, he grew up listening to heroic tales of his dad. Just like his father, my Rohan wanted to protect Indian line of control. His father was a great man who sacrificed himself, his life for the sake of protecting this country. I was proud of Rohan. Off course, I have my insecurities of losing him on the battlefield and getting back his pieces or just nothing remaining of him but memories. But I know him; he will never leave me alone. It had been 8 months him being gone and no wonder I missed him terribly.

"Richa, are you in here dear?" that was Rekha, Rohan's mom and my mother in law. She loves and cares for me may be even more than that of Rohan.

"Yes Ma, I am right here" I yelled picking up my phone and rushing outside. She was in the kitchen, preparing sweets for my birthday.

"Richa, wow you look amazing in the saree, where did you get it from" that was Isha, Rohan's younger sister, married and had a baby boy just 6 months earlier. She continued being amazed by my charm. "If Rohan Bhai would see you now, I swear he'd just pounce upon you" she said and giggled seeing my cheeks turn bright pink.

"Stop it Isha. She must be already missing him, don't remind her again and again" Mom scowled at Isha. I know they thought I was missing him which I was, from the depth of my heart. But there was no need to forbid speaking about him. 'Only if he was here... I miss you Rohan' I thought.

Afternoon turned to evening but I felt no ease, the same insecurity of Rohan not being here remained. I took out my laptop and fished for some recent news about soldiers, but nothing seemed to interest me. All I wanted right now was my comfort that was left with Rohan. I missed him so very much today.

I walked towards the gallery and looked up to the sky. Stars were twinkling like never before. My thoughts drifted to how we first met at my clinic. He came down with his frequent cuts, burns and fracture's. One day, in the morning when I came to the clinic, I saw whole of it filled with red and white roses, one huge bouquet at the centre and all others surrounding it. A letter came with it that was blank and only a heart drawn at the centre after which, he suddenly entered and proposed. A lone tear escaped my eye.

I closed my eyes and stood there in silence "I miss you Rohan, Please come back soon" I said it as though he would hear me say it.

"I missed you too sweetheart" a voice filled my ears. That voice, it made me comfortable, nervous, excited and happy all at the same time. I hurriedly turned around just to find Rohan, in his uniform, standing right in front of me, our noses touched. He held me tightly embracing my waist because if it wasn't for him, I would be on the ground by now. The hug lasted forever is what I felt. I found my comfort. 'Thank you god' I thought.

"Happy birthday" he said pulling away from the hug and leaned in to kiss me. We were centimetres apart when an "I love you" escaped his lips and then within no time I found our lips moving together, perfectly.
