Chapter 11:
The weekend arrived and with reluctance, I got ready. I picked out a blue golden saree that had tiny sequels at the hem. It was a cute party ware and went well with my body language. I did my hair in a messy bun with some strands of hair flowing, since make up and me were like mixing oil and water so I decided to go against it. The door bell rung and I heard it open and close, assuming Ma opened it.
I refreshed my liner and mascara and went to find my shoes; I went with flats which were comfortable and easy. I was just fixing my earrings when I heard an unusual sound of breathing, inhaled. I turned around to find Rahul standing there, looking handsome as ever in his blue suit. It was blue and wondered how, it matched my saree.
"Umm you look gorgeous" he said smiling. I felt my blush creep up my neck and I mumbled thanks in response.
"Are you ready to leave? Ma and mom are together with Joy. They'll be there at the event in next hour." I nodded again, smiling. I walked out and closed the door. I motioned him to go start the car and before locking the door I grabbed something, something very precious to me.

"So Gen. Singh would like to speak something about Rohan to you" he told me while we were in the car. It was quite a drive. I nodded and looked out the window. I held the object close to my heart and closed my eyes. I felt a hand on my hand. I looked towards him.
"Everything will turn out fine, alright?" I nodded. He smiled and nodded too.
"How long is the drive again?" I asked.
"Its' about 20 minutes" He replied, his eyes on the road.
There was a comfortable silence for next 15 minutes until the car stopped. I looked at him and he was finding a place to park the car. He parked it near a tree and got out of the car then jogged towards my door and held his arm out for me. I looked up into his eyes, they were warm and smiling. I placed my arm in his and got out of the car. The object in my hand was held tight to my chest. He didn't notice it.
We walked into the hall and he led me to the personnel. A quick round of greetings was exchanged and soon we were seated in our respective places, beside Rahul.
"A warm welcome and a very good evening to ladies and gentlemen present here, to the men who fight at the battle field, to the women who wait for their men while they protect our country. To the mother's who lose their only child, to those who lose their loved ones and finally to those who fight with honour." My head snapped to Rahul who was busy looking back at me. Then I heard a very familiar voice and turned back only to find Joy mumbling baby words to Ma, ordering her to let him go. I waved them a 'hi'. Joy squealed and wiggled to get out of Ma's hold. I motioned him to stay quite by placing my finger on my lip. He smiled and stayed. That actually never happened. I turned my attention back to the host.
"I honour the men, the soldiers who fought that day for sake of many hurt and injured and to those who couldn't fight." He lit a candle and a huge photo of men deceased in the act was displayed, with Rohan's photo right in the middle. I froze in place and my face went pale. I couldn't breathe. I felt like hell and tears threatened to fall. The host lit the candle and others followed suit. In matter of moments everyone started to light candles in front of the photo of the soldiers. To say, there were a number of photos, but my eyes only glued to only the one in front of me, my Rohan.
