🌊 Chapter 8 🌊

Logan's POV

"Who was that?" mom asks me "Oh uh she's the girl I saw reading this" I tell her holding up the cruel prince. "You didn't say you saw a girl reading it" mom says with a light smirk on her face. "I didn't?" I ask her I could've sworn I did. "Nope you said you saw someone reading it at a cafe didn't say it was a girl" mom says with this cheesy smile on her face.

"So tell me everything" mom says, okay well I wasn't expecting that. "There's not much to tell" I tell her "Oh come on hun you obviously think she's pretty I mean gosh did you look at her when she came in" mom says. She's not wrong about that. Angelina is pretty not just pretty she's gorgeous. Hopefully she saw the note I snuck into the book. The bookmark was just something mom likes to give to customers.

I now realize that I've been so caught up in my head that my mom is still waiting for a response from me. I cough "Her name is Angelina from what I can tell she's not from around here and that she likes to read" I tell my mom truthfully. "Hmm okay well she seems like a sweet girl' mom says nodding her head "Did you at least get her number?" mom asks me.

No, "I um gave her mine but I wrote it on a piece of paper and snuck into the book when she wasn't looking" I tell my mom look anywhere but her. All I hear is mom laughing I turn my head looking at her confused "Why are you laughing?" I ask her sort of offended. "I mean that's one way to do it" mom says. My jaw just drops "What was I supposed to do mom I was nervous!" I tell her this just makes her laugh more. Yeah no I'm done.

 Then my phones pings I turn to look at my phone thats on the counter my mom stops laughing and looks at it too. "Well would you look at that she texted me" I say to her "Could just be Kai or Darnell" mom says with a shrug. I pick up my phone and look at the message its from Darnell asking if I want to go with him, Kai, and Emery to "Della's Dinner" with them. He's more like begging me to go because he probably doesn't want to third wheel.

"Who was it? Kai or Darnell" mom asks it's like she has a super power or something "It was Darnell he wants to know if I want to go to Della's with them" "Asking or begging you to go?" mom asks. "More like begging I won't go if you don't want me to" I tell her "It okay hun you can go with them don't let Darnell suffer all by himself I'll be fine here okay" mom says waving her hand signaling me to go.

"Okay thank you mom" I tell her giving her a hug.

At Della's Diner

We're sitting in our usual booth at Della's it's towards the back but we can still see who's walking in the diner. Kai and Emery are sitting together and Darnell and I are sitting next to each other. Kai, Darnell and I always came here when we were in middle school the people who work here practically know our order by heart.

Then Kai started dating Emery and we invited her into our little found family letting her tag along on whether it be Della's Diner or to surf. They've been together for about a year now and during that year Emmy wouldn't get in the water to surf with us. She would be roaming around the beach finding seashells and collecting the ones she thought were pretty. She would give them to my mom or make jewelry out of them. Until this summer when she brought it up to Kai that she wanted to learn to surf.

Whenever she wasn't at soccer practice, volunteering at the aquarium, or hanging out with just Kai she was with us. She's like family now, the little sister I've never had. I'm sure Darnell would say the same. Those two especially fight like their siblings. Always getting on each other's nerves. Darnell makes fun of her knowledge about the sea and the animals that live in it and Emmy scares Darnell saying that Akira is nearby.

Akira Yang and Darnell Hayes have been enemies since elementary school. I don't even know what happened between them. After being friends with Darnell for what feels like every he never told us why but it might be something stupid. They insult each other any chance that they get.

My mom and Kai's mom have been friends since they were in high school so naturally when they had us Kai and I became best friends brothers even. We've been there for each other through everything. For a while it was just him and I until fourth grade we met Darnell and he became like another brother to us.

"Okay never mind I want to leave" Darnell says snapping me out of my thoughts. "Why? We just got here" Emery says, sipping her strawberry lemonade. "Akira's here" Darnell mumbles, Kai and I look at each other then back at Darnell and laugh. "It's fine Dar she's only grabbing it to go" Emery says while both Kai and I continue to laugh. "Shut up she's looking over at us" Darnell says Emery turns her head to see "Nope she's walking over towards us" Emmy says turning around with a smile on her face. 

Kai and I stop laughing, ohh the show is about to begin. "Darnell weird seeing you around I thought I wouldn't have to see your face until school started" Akira says looking at Darnell. "Hi Em '' Akira says to Emery "Hi Kira" Emery says smiling at her. Darnell just looks at Emery with a look of disgust. Kai's too busy trying to hide his laughter. "I thought I wouldn't have to deal with you until the fall, oh and your food is ready" Darnell says with a sarcastic smile.

Akira gives him the same smile before walking away, flipping Darnell off in the process. "God I hate her so much," Darnell says. "Well I thought that was a pretty civil conversation that you guys had," Emery says, still sipping her lemonade. "Who's side are you on?" Darnell says to Emery holding his hand to his chest. "I didn't realize we were picking sides," Emery says tilting her head, shrugging her shoulders.

"Well you walked right into that one dude" I say before laughing. Kai's bringing Emery into his side and from what I can tell he's laughing but using her as his shield to cover it. Darnell just sighs in defeat but just as he does that our food comes.

While we eat our food we just update each other on everything that's been going on if there's anything new going on. I decide to keep the Angelina situation to myself and not tell them anything at least not yet. Emery is going on talking about the new animals they've rescued at the aquarium and Darnell is just eating his food nodding along. Kai on the other hand is looking at me trying to get me to talk about Angelina.

I text him secretly.

Logan: Not yet I'm waiting until I know more about her before I tell them about it

Kai looks up and just nods his head in understanding. Although I get the feeling he probably told Emery about it.

After we're all done eating we split the bill and the tip before getting up to leave. We're walking towards Kai's car when I get a notification on my phone. I pull my phone out to see a message from an unknown number.

Unknown: hiii - Angelina

Holy shit she sent me a message. Holy shit!

hello my lovess sorry I've been busy with summer school. Akira's and Darnells beef will be a lot better I promise youuu. But to my Gracie fans THE SECRETS OF US TOUR!!! I'm trying to convince my mom to take me to one of the California shows since she's not performing in Arizona :( but alsooo CLOSE TO YOU THIS FRIDAY LIKE WHAT?!?!? but Gracie what about In Between?? that's it for today
