You sort of forgot
your little black book today
as you ordered something hot.
You left it on the counter
right beside my loaded tray.

You wouldn't have forgotten it
if i hadn't hidden it for guilt.
The fine snowy pages laid spotted,
wrinkled with a fast forward of ages
for after my heart's tempest,
coffee drops on it had spattered.

I could have given it back to you,
apologized and bought you another one new,
but i caught sight of your smile as you
packed
and, as selfish as i am,
in my mind i wanted that to be stuck.
