"Hey! Hey! Watch ou-" Turning around, facing the man... It's slow motion. I know what's behind me. I know what's going to happen if I don't move out of the way. But I can't.
His voice turns into a muffle, as does that music coming from my headphones. Facing the view by my side, almost obscured by the heavy rain I took no precaution to protect myself from. I see the bright light. The headlights of a cargo truck.
I want to move. I do. But why can't I?
Isn't my life supposed to flash in front of my eyes right now?
Maybe.. This is a dream? No... It's not.
It's getting closer. I still can't move.
Soon... It happens. The darkness drapes over me. I see the emptiness of it. But I still feel the dropping of rain, and the warmness of blood all over my skin.
It's disgusting. Even if it is slowly fading from my senses. Along with the bass.
—
I shot my eyes open. Gasping, I clutch onto the railing of the bed.
Starting to hyperventilate, my other hand fists around the cloth I'm wearing. Stretching it away from my chest. My feet trying to kick the warm blanket off of me.
All I can process is the whiteness of the room I'm in. Oxygen mask on my face. And beeping. A constant, fast beated beeping.
The door slams open, "Hey! You're Okay!" Someone rushes over, engulfing me.
Still, with heavy breaths, great confusion, and raised anxiety, I sit there. In his arms, shaking.
"Hey... When you calm down, there's going to be an officer that is going to come in, and ask a couple questions. Only when you're ready. Okay?"
"Ye-yeah. Okay." I nod.
"Do you want any water? Any pain you're feeling?" He takes a seat on a backless office chair.
"Yeah," I try to clear my throat. "Yeah. I.. would like some water. And, I'm not in any pain."
"Right. Water. You didn't have any bruising or injuries when you were brought in. And you not being in any pain is a plus. I'll be right back." I nod to him again. He smiles before exiting the room.
When he comes back, my hands are still shaking. Though I am much more calm. As I take a drink from the cup he hands me, he sits down, waiting for me.
Taking the last drop in, I look at the trash can. Slowly getting up, I walk over and toss the cup into it. "You ready?" I nod again.
The Doctor isn't in the room anymore. Sometime after he walked out, a Chief and an Officer walked in. "Hey, kid." I looked up from my lap. "I'm Hopper, and this is my friend Officer Powell." Powell, gives a short smile and wave.
"Chief," Powell gestures with his head, "Is going to be asking questions, and I'm here for extra precautions, and to take record of a couple things."
"'Kay.."
Hopper wanders to the chair, placing himself in front of me at a reasonable distance. "What's your full name?"
"[First Name] [Middle name] [Last name]."
"Do you know how old you are?"
"Fourteen."
He hums. "Do you... know what happened before you passed out? Or what caused it?"
Flashes of it cross my mind. "No.."
Hopper sighs this time. "Do you... know where you are?"
I do. I squint my eyes, Shaking my head.
