My music was playing loudly, so at first I wasn’t sure if I was actually hearing anything. But as the sound grew louder, I turned my music down. I couldn’t believe my ears. Was I really hearing that sound?
At this point, I’d completely shut off my music and the sound was unmistakable: it was the TARDIS. I looked out the window. There it was, sitting, now quiet, in my backyard.
“No way,” I said, “No. WAY.” I grabbed my jacket and raced downstairs into the backyard. I leapt off my back deck and knocked on the wooden doors. They swung open almost immediately. In the doorway, standing as calm as can be, his hair still as floppy and hilarious as ever, was the Doctor.
He looked at me. He blinked. “Who are you?” he asked. I was still totally shocked that he’d landed here of all places. “I’m Sarah.” I answered finally. He grinned. “Sarah. That’s a nice name. I once traveled with someone called Sarah. Well, Sarah-Jane, but--” he stopped. “Why are you grinning?” he asked. I immediately stopped and said, “No… no reason.” He looked at me suspiciously. Just when he was about to say something, a voice from behind him, inside the TARDIS, said, “Doctor? What’s the hold-up?” It was Amy. I looked passed him to see inside, but he blocked my way. I frowned
“Sorry, but you’re not allowed to see inside. You’d be pretty shocked.” He told me. “Wanna bet?” I asked, and stepped passed him, grinning. “No!!” he yelled, but it was too late; I’d already stepped inside. I looked around me, still grinning. It was very beautiful. I looked at the console, and at Amy and Rory. They were looking at me in shock. I guess they weren’t used to seeing 14-year-olds rushing into the TARDIS.
I looked back at the door, which the Doctor was still standing at. He was looking at me, and I could see there was a hint of a smile on his face. “Well?” he said, “Anything you want to say, any passing remarks?” I heard Amy snort. “I bet you say that to everyone.” I told him. “It seems to me,” I said “that this box is impossible.” He grinned, closed the door and said, “I like impossible.” I raised my eyebrows but said nothing.
“Who are you?” asked Rory. “Doctor, who is she?” The Doctor looked at me, seemingly interested. “I don’t know,” he said. “I told you my name!” I said. “Yes you did, but that doesn’t say much about who you are, does it?” I looked at him with mock indignation and said, “Of course it does! It tells you that I am amazingly funny, incredibly intelligent and other good things. What more do you need to know?”
The Doctor grinned. “Sorry, not trying to be rude,” said Amy, “but why are you here?” Though the question was obviously directed at me, it was the Doctor who answered. “Her backyard.” Amy nodded. “OK… again, not trying to be rude Sarah, but is she coming with us?” I looked at the Doctor eagerly. “Yeah am I?”
The Doctor put on a face to make it look like he was thinking about it, but his eyes said that he was going to let me. I said nothing in case I was just imagining it, but he said, “Why not?” Though I kept my face calm, I did a little internal dance. “YES!” I thought to myself.
Suddenly the TARDIS had started moving. “DOCTORRRRRRRR!!!!” Amy shouted. “What are you doing?!” yelled Rory. “I don’t know! I didn’t do anything!!” The Doctor yelled in response. We were being thrown around so much, I’m sure my brain would’ve come out had it been more.
And as suddenly as it started, the TARDIS was still. The Doctor ran to the doors and pulled them open.
We were in the middle of space.
