After pulling yet MORE levers and pushing MORE buttons, we arrived at the Medusa Cascade.
The only problem was that the signal wasn’t there anymore.
I frowned, looking at the screen. “That’s odd… more than odd…” I said.
Amy came up beside me, looking at the screen. “What? I can read timey-wimey.” She said.
I glanced at her. “The signal... it’s not here anymore… and it’s not ‘timey-wimey’, it’s Gallifreyian.”
“Where is it? How come it told you to come here if it’s not here?” asked Rory.
“I don’t know. I literally have no idea. And guess what else? More cheerful news: the signal’s completely disappeared!”
We all exchanged worried glances. How were we supposed to find the Doctor now? What had controlled the TARDIS? Was it the same thing that had caused the Doctor to forget how to pilot the TARDIS?
These questions swirled through my mind. I wanted answers. And there was only one way to get them, and of course that was the Doctor, but he was off visiting with some ‘friends’ and we had no hope of finding him.
“No.” I corrected myself out loud, breaking the silence. Amy and Rory looked at me.
“We haven’t lost hope,” I continued, trying to convince myself. “There’s always hope, you just have to know where to look for it.” They were still looking at me. “So, where do we look?” asked Rory.
I was about to reply that I didn’t know yet when there was ANOTHER knock on the door. Don’t people/aliens/whatever know that we’re trying to find the Doctor?
I sighed, and opened the door, ignoring Amy and Rory’s protests. I wasn’t expecting anything to rasp my name and yank me out of the TARDIS, pulling me to wherever.
However, I was completely shocked when the Doctor stepped in and said, grinning, “Did you miss me?” Then he clutched the side of his face in pain where Amy had slapped. “OWW! Have you been talking to River too much?!” He exclaimed while I tried to conceal a fit of giggles.
Though he had returned, the Doctor still wouldn’t answer any of our questions.
“Where were you?” I asked, “What had controlled the TARDIS? Was it the same thing that had caused the Doctor to forget how to pilot the TARDIS?”
He looked at me, shaking his head. “I don’t answer loads of questions ... you know, when people ask them like that.”
“Where were you?” I asked and this time waited for an answer.
“It doesn’t matter! Why is it so important?”
“Well, don’t you even WANT to know why you forgot how to fly the TARDIS? Do you even WANT to know why that whatever-it-was kidnapped you?” I asked him angrily.
He didn’t answer. Instead he continued to move around the console.
I frowned. Something wasn’t right… the Doctor wasn’t himself.
And then I realised the truth of that statement. It wasn’t like him to not explain what had happened. I didn’t say anything to him though, because somehow I knew that if I did, I would probably die.
I walked over to where Amy and Rory were standing talking.
“We don’t know that.” Said Amy, as though they were arguing.
“Yeah, but with the Doctor there isn’t much you know until he explains it to you!” Rory countered.
“Guys,” I began,”I need to talk to you about something. But you CAN’T. TELL. THE DOCTOR.”
I saw the look in Amy’s eyes. “It’s not that. It’s nothing like that. The Doctor isn’t himself. This is probably not even the real Doctor! The real one is probably still trapped!”
I could see that Amy and Rory were confused. “If he’s not the real Doctor, who or what is he and where can we find the REAL Doctor?” Asked Amy.
“I can figure it out. I can do it; all I need to do is a scan. But you need to distract-” I jumped as I felt a hand on my shoulder.
I whipped around to see the Not-Doctor.
