I expected us to be surrounded right away.  But we weren’t.  That was the thing that confused me the most.  I mean, hello!  We’re trying to find the Doctor.  Shouldn’t they be trying to kill us?  Then I decided it was probably a good thing that we weren’t dead.

I looked at Amy and Rory, and was mildly surprised to find that they were staring at me.

“What?” I asked.

“Where do we go?” Asked Amy.

“Oh.  I… oh.  Uh, I don’t know.”

Amy rolled her eyes.   “I think,” she said, “that we should go this way.”  She began heading off down one of the many corridors before us.

“Wait,” I said, “I don’t know why, but I have the strangest feeling we should stay here.”  Something, I don’t know what, was making me wait here.  Some sort of … pull-y thing.

“Why?”

“Because-”

“Because of me!”  Said a voice.  I turned around.  And standing there was my friend Emily.  I looked at her in astonishment.  Then I glared.

“Oh yeah!” I said, “It figures!  I’M the one who researches who the Doctor is, I’M the one who tells you about it, and YOU’RE the one who gets to the alien base first!  HOW IS THIS FAIR?!”

Then I grinned and gave her a hug.  “Oh, by the way, I’m an alien too.”

“You can’t just TELL her you’re an alien!” Amy protested, “It’s not like she’s … I don’t know, used to odd things like that!  I mean, if I went up to someone and said, ‘Hello, I’m an alien’ I couldn’t expect them to believe me!  Even if they were a friend of mine, no normal person could just ACCEPT that!”

I snickered.  “Yeah, but Emily’s one of those people… who are just themselves.  It’s in their nature.  She’s just Emily.  It’s as simple as that; she’ll accept it because … because it’s the way she is!  I never thought I’d have to explain this, but I always thought that if I did have to, it wouldn’t be this hard.”

“Sorry, hang on, who is she?”  Asked Rory.

I turned to him.  “Emily.  She’s like, my BFF.  No, never saying that again either.”

“Like you’ve never said that before…” Emily muttered.

I turned to her, exasperated.  “Emily, there are other people here now.  I know back in elementary, Amanda and I were the only people you had to talk to, but now, you have to talk to these nice people.  I know I’m sounding incredibly rude right now, but really, Emily’s ok with it.  You are ok with it, right?”

Emily nodded.

“Just like ‘EMILY YOU HAVE TO WALK BESIDE ME NOT BEHIND ME’, EMILY YOU HAVE TO SPEAK.  What if you met a bunch of blind people?  Oh, actually, that would be funny.   Let’s go find blind people.  But of course,” I added, catching Amy and Rory glaring, “AFTER we find the Doctor.”

“So, which way do we go?” I asked Emily.

Much to my exasperation, instead of answering, she pointed to one of the corridors.  I gave her a mock glare as Amy said, “See?  Told you that was the way to go.”
