~KAIRA~
"Who are you? And what are you doing in my house?" I asked the guy who was in the middle of a fight with Kairav. I searched for Kalu, but he was nowhere to be seen. Before he could reply, I went to the kitchen and took out the knife. When I turned around, the scene before me made me lose my grip on the knife.
"I can explain," Kalil said, standing there with Kalu at his feet.
"Where did that guy go? Am I really going crazy now? Why am I seeing you again, standing in my living room at that? Weren't you just my wishful thinking?"
"Kaira, darling, let me explain." Kalil tried again, stepping forward to come and hug me, I think. But I was on the verge of losing it.
"No, no, no! Don't come near me. Although you were not just my wishful thinking, you just disappeared for the whole eight months. So you have no business coming near me now, Mister." I said, picking up the knife that was lying on the floor.
What does he think of himself? Just disappearing like that, leaving me behind to question my sanity after what I saw that night, and then he has the audacity of talking to me as if nothing happened; we met just last night, kissed, he showed me his wings, and today is our first day of the relationship. As if the months in between didn't happen at all.
"Darling, it's just me. Keep the knife down, please." as if he were talking to a kid, Kalil said. "I'm not going to hurt you, baby; you know that, don't you? Let's sit and have a talk." Kalil gently started moving towards me.
I was about to take the knife down, but then...
"Don't you see, she doesn't want to talk!" Kalu said, No, the guy from before said, who was just my little fur ball a few seconds ago and had turned himself into a fully grown man now.
"What the...!" I exclaimed, and then everything dissolved into darkness.
I groaned as I started hearing voices again. Hello? Someone's trying to sleep here. Can't you guys keep it down? And again, why is it so dark here? Oh, I got deja vu just by thinking about the last sentence.
You gotta open your eyes, dumbass! (You aren't sleeping; you fell after seeing something like Kalu turning into a fully grown man.)
Her voice in my head brought back memories of what happened earlier in flashes. Which, in turn, made me open my eyes. Yep, Kalil was here, sitting by my side on the bed. The guy was pacing the room, blabbering something to Kalil about coming here and ruining everything.
"Oh, thank god!" the guy said, after noticing I was awake.
"Who are you?" I asked with a face that said, I want you to vomit whatever is going on right now.
"Azlan," the guy solemnly replied.
"Kaira, baby, please let me explain." Kalil started from my side.
I just gave him a side eye, which shut him up pretty quickly. And then I turned to Azlan, getting to the point. "Who are you guys? Why are you trying to turn my life upside down again? And what are you? How did you turn into a man from my little fur ball? Oh, my precious little baby. What happened to him? What happened to Kalu?" I started going off like a machine gun, because enough is enough now. I need answers.
"Kaira, relax. I'm him. I'm Kalu. That dawn, when Kalil left you, he assigned me as your guard dog, or, in simple words, your bodyguard, as he was going to take some days to return; at least that is what he told me." Azlan said, also giving Kalil a side eye. It's official; I like him.
My mind went back to all the times when Kalu had behaved like a gentleman; never once did Kalu come into the room while I was changing, or he even didn't let me hug him. I thought that was him being grumpy. But now I understand. How awkward it must have been when I tried to hug him forcefully, when I was too happy or too excited. I smiled a little, thinking of a night when Kalu ran away from me like a scaredy cat because I was drunk and wanted to hug him really badly. Even the times when he didn't let me go near any man.
"Tell me, Azlan, is it fine if I go near men now or now too? Do you have anything to say about that?" I asked with a straight face, giving the impression that I was angry.
Azlan said, raising both his hands in the air, "That was not me. That was all because of the possessive ass of a man over there." and motioning towards Kalil with his eyes. Which earned him a low growl from Kalil and a startled cry from me in turn.
"That's enough, Azlan. Don't forget your place. Kalil started with a stern face.
"Don't talk to my bodyguard like that." I snapped, cutting him off. To which Azlan gave Kalil a sly grin.
"Azlan, please step outside for some time. We need to settle some things among ourselves." I requested him. Not losing eye contact with Kalil.
As soon as Azlan stepped out of the room, Kalil's eyes softened. "Baby," he started.
"Let me get this straight," I started, again cutting him off, "so Kalu is Azlan. Kairav and Kalil are one and the same, and they are also creatures with wings. Anything you want to add? Like, what are you called? Is Gaurav real or what? Or, like, where did you disappear to? And after coming back, why bother with a disguise? Is this some kind of game to you?" I questioned, getting angry by the second.
Before he could respond, someone barged into the room. Oh, for god's sake, can't I have a private conversation with someone in my own house? Kalil was going to snap at the intruder too, but stopped once he saw who he was.
"The King is dead. We need to leave, and she needs to come with us." Gaurav informed the room gravely and looked me in the eye.
