~KAIRA~

“That was great, you guys! We did it!” Mia exclaimed as soon as they left.

“Phew, I can’t believe we just did that!” Yaksh replied, while others relaxed their stance and decided to celebrate our success with a round of drinks.

"Seriously, everyone, we did it. We got them!” I added on to the appreciation.

“Three cheers to us for cracking our first grand deal... Hip hip…” Remo shouted when we all got our drinks in our hands, to which everyone responded with the hoorays whilst raising their glass.
Never in my life did I imagine myself where I am right now. Life has always been a hustle for me, as far as I can remember.

My childhood is a mystery to me as well. I was outside an orphanage at the age of eight, and before that, I had no clue about my own life. Many times I sit and try to remember the missing pieces of my childhood, but to no avail. After turning 18, the orphanage didn’t approve my stay there, and that led me to have multiple part-time jobs, as I didn’t have an impressive portfolio or qualifications either. I completed my graduation from a community college with the help of my orphanage warden, but that's that.

Sitting here and doing this job is a dream come true. I have had a nag for creativity since school days, plus my working experience of more than 5 years now makes me the perfect PR manager; at least this is what Mia believes.

“Did you see how hot he was, though?” Mia asked me while fanning herself and after downing two more shots.

“He was okay," I replied.

“Oh, shut up! Just admit it, you don’t find earthly men attractive enough since that dream of yours. Yaksh slurred out, as he already had more than five shots.

This boy is going to regret it tomorrow. But honestly, yes, I didn't find anyone attractive enough after that night, after I met him.

“It's nothing like that, Dumbo! Stop blabbering nonsense and have your fun.” I said, not ready to admit that he had me there.

“I was having just that, but you are no fun,he said, pouting a little at the end.

“The point here is that he was indeed hot," he declared.

“Aren’t you already a committed young man?” I said it mockingly.

"Yes, I very much am! So what! That doesn’t mean I can’t state facts.” He proudly stated:
“Boom! Yaksh one. Kaira zero.” Remo said he was having too much fun out of this lame quarrel.

"Oh, not you too, Remo! I already have my hands full with these two. Anyway, that little staring game that you two had, Kaira, what was that about?” Mia teasingly asked.

But honestly, I also don’t know what that was about. I felt like he wanted me to maintain eye contact. I feel really stupid saying this, but he made me do it. When I wanted to break free from the staring, I was unable to do it. This continued to happen for several minutes, which made it very evident for others, only ending when he himself finally decided to break the stare.

“Hello. I’m Kaira, the PR manager who contacted you. Mr. Kairav?” I asked the owner of those light grey eyes.

“No, I’m his secretary. Gaurav, pleased to meet you.” He replied, forwarding his hand for a shake.

“Oh, nice to meet you too, Mr. Gaurav.” I said it with a handshake.

And then it began. The no-losing eye contact contest of some sort. While others were introducing themselves to him, he just kept staring into my eyes, as if he were watching a full-fledged movie in there. Although I tried to break eye contact from my end, his eyes were so intense, I just couldn't. It felt like I was in some sort of trance, and he perfectly knew about it. When everyone stopped what they were doing and the table fell into complete silence, did he allow me to look away from his eyes?

“Pleased to meet you all.” He then proceeded to shake everyone’s hands while calling out their correct names.
I don’t understand how he did it. It seemed to me that he must have felt detached from the world in the same way I did for those few minutes, but I was wrong.

“Mr. Kairav is currently out of town. He’ll be here in a few days. Until then, I'll give him the briefings,he stated after he was finished with the handshakes.

“Great! Let's get started then.” Mia singled me out to start the presentation.

All got seated as I was setting them up. While doing so too, I could feel his eyes on me.
