~KAIRA~
“You idiot! I said a little to the left, not to the right. My left, not yours! You idiot.. Who hired you, hun?” Mia shouted.
“You did, madam. Have some mercy on that poor guy and yourself; take a break.” I said as I entered the place.
“Oh, thank God! You are here, finally. Now I can finally go and cry in a corner, Mia said dramatically.
“Hey girl… you okay?” I asked while giving her a side hug and looking at the neon sign that was being hung a few moments ago.
“Yeah. Just tired and hence frustrated.”
“Yep, I can sense that from miles away. Go lie down in the office for some time; I'll handle everything here.”
“Thank you, girl! What would I do without you?” She handed me the notepad that had ‘things to do list’ attached to it and went to the small office made for the team.
“Okay… So lighting work is still going on, and neon signs are at their respective places? Yes, they are. The bar stools and tables... I read to myself as I was ticking out the things I had done.
I went through the to-do list and worked on the ones that were yet to be done. The club’s construction was almost done; they were working on the interiors.
After getting done with the list, I was just overseeing and supervising the workers. The site was bustling with activity as the workers were busy putting finishing touches on the club interior. I went to the adjoining balcony at the backside of the club.
Although the construction of the balcony was done, all the extra material and debris were kept in a corner. I stepped towards the clean part of the balcony. It was a beautiful evening, and the sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the city. The club was not that far away from the sea. This balcony especially had a sea-facing view, which made the sunset even more special.
I stood there, hands gripping the railing, staring at the fast-reading shoreline, a million thoughts swirling in my head. The clear blue sky emerging in the mighty blue made me think of his oceanic-coloured eyes.
“Who were you, Kalil? And where did you go?” I thought.
(Maybe it was your wishful thinking in actuality, as claimed by others.)
“But how can one explain the feather and the note…”I said it again to myself.
Before I could delve into the thought, I heard commotion from inside the club. Thinking that Mia must have gotten up from her nap, I went inside. As soon as I set foot inside, the first thing I noticed was that no one was there.“Hello? Anyone there…”
(See, they also ran away from a mad woman like you.)
“Now’s not the time for your sarcasm…” Yes, I was again talking to myself. I am normal.
I moved towards the bar to see if Mia was there in the small office beside it. Nope. The lights are turned off. I checked the upper section of the club, the private rooms that were constructed for the VIPs. I couldn’t find anyone there either. Where is everyone? Were they done with the work and decided to leave, thinking that I had already left? I reached in my pocket to call Mia, but my phone was not with me.
“Where did I keep this stupid phone now?”
(Wow! The phone is stupid, not you. Nice.)
“Shut up, will you?”
I then began my search for my phone. I got to the ground level, searched near the bar, and then saw my phone kept on one of the tables opposite the dance floor. There it is. I made a move to take my phone. Before I could reach my phone, I heard and sensed something unusual, so I looked up.
