Aura's P.O.V
The atmosphere inside the car was almost suffocating as we drove back to the mansion. The events of earlier had filled our minds with dark revelations, leaving us all in a state of stunned silence.
As Sunghoon pulled up in the driveway, we all shuffled out of the car, eager to escape the uncomfortable stillness. Jake and Heeseung quickly made their way inside without a word, their footsteps echoing as they disappeared from view.
However, my attention was drawn to Jay as he began to walk down a path that led around the back of the mansion. Without hesitation, I called after him, hoping to catch his attention before he vanished from sight.
"Jay, wait," I called in a soft voice, and he hesitated before turning his head to give me a blank stare as I approached him.
"What?" He questioned me, his tone was aggravated but not as harsh as before.
Despite my nerves, I refused to let his tone discourage me from speaking my mind. Gathering my courage, I looked into his eyes, trying to maintain eye contact as I spoke.
"Jay, I know things aren't great between us," I said softly. "But I just wanted to say thank you." I could feel my cheeks flushing with heat as I shifted uneasily on my feet. It wasn't easy to express my gratitude to someone who seemed so emotionally distant, but I knew it was the right thing to do.
Jay's eyes softened a fraction, and I could tell that he immediately knew what I was referring too, however, he quickly reverted to his usual grumbling self.
"Don't think that's changed anything," he muttered under his breath. His tone wasn't quite as harsh as before, and when I looked up at his face, I saw a hint of embarrassment there.
Perhaps deep down he's beginning to regret his earlier aggression, but based off what I've learned from the others, this was his usual personality, so maybe I shouldn't read too much into it. Maybe, this is just how he was.
"I don't," I speak softly, not wanting to irritate him any further and I just leave it at that and give him a soft smile and a nod before turning and making my way over to Sunghoon who stood watching, leaning against the car.
Sunghoon greeted me with a warm smile, which I couldn't help but return. I came to a stop in front of him.
"And, of course, thank you too," I teased him playfully, knowing that he understood just how much I appreciated his protective presence earlier. Sunghoon and I had a strange unspoken understanding between us, and we both knew that words weren't necessary to express our emotions towards each other.
"I'm just glad you're safe," he replied softly, looking down at me with fondness in his eyes. His gaze sent a shiver down my spine, and my cheeks flushed as I tried to compose myself. There was something about Sunghoon's eyes that made me feel simultaneously vulnerable and empowered.
"Aren't we going inside?" I ask him, curious why he hadn't made a move to enter the mansion yet and I raise a questioning eyebrow when he shakes his head softly.
"Actually, now that you know the truth..." He trails off and I immediately knew that he meant the fact that apparently, I died a hundred years ago, which I was still having difficulty grasping. "There is something I want to show you." He speaks, and gestures with a nod of his head for me to get back into the car.
"What is it?" I asked him eagerly, curious to know what he had in store for me. I climbed back into the passenger seat, making sure to buckle my seat belt this time, while Sunghoon got behind the wheel.
"You'll see," he replied with a sly grin on his face, and my heart started racing with anticipation. I couldn't help but pout at his cryptic response.
He started the car, and I watched as we drove down a dirt road that led away from the city. It was a route that I didn't recognize, and I wondered where he could be taking me. The anticipation was killing me, but I tried my best to stay patient.
