Skyscrapers stood tall amongst the wasteland, the tall jutting structures all contributing to the formation of the massive concrete jungle that was the city in this sector. Light shone through the innumerable windows as the Sun finally rose on Copper-9, basking the previously darkened lands in rays of dim orange and yellow tones. It was at this time that the outside world was considered the safest for worker drone travel, as the beasts that lurked in the dark, the murder drones, were weak to the breaking of day and as such, they retreated into the dark corners of the city, hiding out in their twisted spires of metallic doom or within the vast shadows cast by the monoliths of steel and brick that stood far above every inhabitant, big or small.
Right now, for a particular squad with a few oddball additions, the latter was true for them. Huddled under the all-encompassing shade of a skyscraper, a group of three disassembly drones lay. N was leaning against the cool stone that the bottom of the structure was made from, his arms safely wrapped around the small body of Uzi. The little worker was pressed up against his chest while her leg crossed over with his own, N's tail having coiled itself around her waist while gentle, soft purrs made their way out of his mouth every few seconds, more so reminiscent of a cat rather than a killing machine. A few feet away from the sleepy duo, J was also leaning against the wall, arms crossed against her chest firmly despite her status as asleep. Even in the world of unconsciousness, she was a hardass. Finally, a couple inches from the cuddle pile, V lay on her back, taking pleasure in the sensation of the cold fingers of snow tickling her back.
Contrary to the other drones around her, V was still awake, instead taking the pleasure of basking herself in the darkened embrace of the building up above. She had stayed awake, partly because she had volunteered to keep an eye out for any of the other enemy disassemblers, which N was very grateful for. He had said that he was tired after his violent battle with P, but V could see through him easily, and she knew he just wanted to cuddle with the purple grape. She couldn't really blame him though, Uzi was perhaps the best that the colony had to offer when it came to both looks and fighting prowess, so he had scored well in her opinion. She said that because the mutual feelings between them were so obvious, almost painfully sometimes.
Yet, despite this, her lookout job was really only a small part of the truth. In reality, she wanted to keep an optic on the only other member of their team awake, Tessa.
The human spacegirl had denied the prospect of sleep, reasoning that she was a human and couldn't really sleep during the day, and also that she just wanted to watch the sun for a bit. N and even J didn't seem to really care, but V was certainly much more observant of the girl and her actions. V didn't understand why Tessa was here, on this godforsaken hellhole of all places! Why didn't she just go to some private elite resort planet if she wanted an interstellar vacation? Something told her that Tessa wasn't telling the whole truth, and V wanted answers.
That was the main reason she had stayed awake, to make sure N was fast asleep before even making one move. She could not afford to let him figure out what they were and what was happening to his little midget toaster. Now that he was far into his slumber, it was time to make her move.
Quietly, like a kid going to peek at their presents during the night before Christmas, V shuffled herself to her feet, little peg feet making minimal noise even despite the snow below. Her optical array shifted towards Tessa who was still in the same position that she had gone into when she started her 'stargazing'; hands behind her back and legs slightly spread out as if bracing against Copper-9's persistant winds.
Tessa was simply enjoying the silence, trying to ignore the throbbing pains in her neck and throat. Damn, she had no idea disassembly drone punches and kicks would hurt that badly! Then again, she is also basically being struck by huge pieces of metal at an extreme speed and force, so no wonder it would hurt like a bugger! Her thoughts about the battle were cut short when a voice piped up, accompanied by the sound of snow being crushed en masse under metal.
