Shinobu teases Giyuu and says that no one likes him in an effort to make him prove her wrong, open up and make some friends. She could probably use a different method but as long as Giyuu doesn't take it personally or get upset by it I'm fine with the method. I'm also kinda sure that Shinobu IS his friend.
In 'What Giyuu thinks about every Hashira' Giyuu says about Shinobu 'She's talented and hardworking. She looks quite pale'. But that's more likely than not because Giyuu literally has no enemies and respects the Hashira as he doesn't consider himself one.
In 'What Shinobu thinks about every Hashira' she says about Giyuu 'I think she should talk more'. Unlike almost every other Hashira, she didn't say anything bad about him. Just the fact she wants him to socialise.
When Shinobu's death was announced, did you see the look of pure terror on Giyuu's face?
