Usually, you were fine going out like this. You and Natasha had agreed to go out to dinner with your big family as some of your family were in town to visit. Everything started fine. You and Natasha sat next to each other, of course, and everyone else split up to different booths. That's how big your family is.
As the evening went on, your head started feeling heavy, the noises started getting very loud, it was starting to get hard to hear the people talking to you as the music was so loud. You craved Natasha's touch at this moment. All you wanted to do was rest your head on her shoulder and hold her hand. But you knew you couldn't. You know she doesn't like PDA, so you try keeping it together.
You had fallen quiet, something you do when things get too much. Natasha took notice of this almost instantly. You're usually very chatty and sociable, but right now, you were none of them. "I'm going to the bathroom." You suddenly tell Nat, your voice just loud enough for her to hear. Without waiting for her response, you walk out, sighing as the bathroom door closes, the noises becoming muffled.
You lean against the sink, your heart pounding against your chest. You turn on the faucet in hopes of it drowning out the sound of your thumping heart. Arms suddenly wrap around your waist from behind, making you jump. "It's okay, it's just me." You relax immediately at hearing Nat's voice. You turn around to face her, her arms still wrapped around your waist. "You okay?" Nat asks, concerned. She knows you're quite sensitive to loud noises. "I am now." You sigh quietly and rest your head on her shoulder.
She strokes your hair, realising that her touching you seemed to calm you down. "Should we go back in or do you want to go home?" Nat asked and pecked your cheek. "Stay for a little longer." You smiled a little. "Okay. If you need to go out again-" You cut here off. "I'll let you know this time." You squeezed her hand and you both walked back to your table, continuing your conversations with your cousins.
Another while later, you were enjoying talking to your cousins again. You felt like you could actually talk to them now you felt okay again. That didn't last long, as the music blasted into your ears, even louder this time. You felt like the music was bashing into your head. You took a sip of your water to try get rid of the lump in your throat.
Nat was quick to notice how you'd fallen quite again. "You okay detka?" Nat asked. You shook your head no. Your cousins had left the table to get something from outside.
To a normal person, the music that was playing was soft restaurant bar music, but to you, it was suffocating. You looked around and moved your hand into hers, giving it a squeeze. Without realising your actions, you leaned your head onto Nat's shoulder. Nat froze for a moment. She wasn't a huge fan of PDA but she was willing to give it a try if it meant it would help you. "Sorry. I forgot." You mumbled and lifted your heavy head off her shoulder and letting go of her hand after feeling Nat stiffen up.
Nat felt guilty. She knew how much you needed her comfort right now but yet she denied it. Not on purpose, she just wasn't used to PDA. Without giving it a second thought, Nat gently guided your head back on her shoulder, you smiled at this and curled into her. "You okay with this?" You whisper. You knew why she wasn't a fan of PDA. You knew of her past too, so you were okay with taking things slow until she was comfortable with things. "Yeah. I am."
This was a big step for Nat. Overcoming something she was afraid of but you were there with her every step of the way. You both looked after eachother.
Nat grabbed your hands and held them, allowing you to distract yourself as you started playing with her hands.
You couldn't be more grateful for your girlfriend.
