For future reference, the chapters that are titled are the ones that have really important things happening in them.

Recap
In the first part, Will calls Mike, one of his friends from Derry and asks if he thinks he should go to the homecoming dance coming, following his advice of "getting the experience". He asks Lonnie for a suit he can borrow and they actually have a wholesome moment for once. Will boards his bike now dressed up and starts riding to the school.

In the second part is when things get juicy. After being picked up by Hopper and El, Mike gets to the dance and he and El go their separate ways. He goes to sit with Will, showering him with compliments and getting to the point where they almost kiss. Then they're interrupted by El. Mike and El dance and they end up coming out to each other.

Analysis

*Incoming Rant*

What pains me about reading this is that something about the plot will piss me off and then I remember that I'm the one who wrote it so I'm essentially just getting mad at myself. There are a few plot holes when it comes to Mike. Firstly, in the beginning of the dance part 2, Karen actually shows him attention, which we learned from earlier that Mike really wants it. But then for some reason when she gives it to him he acts all embarrassed and like he doesn't want it and pushes away her affection. It doesn't make sense for his character, he should've been super happy at these moments not annoyed. Secondly, it feels like Mike very abruptly went from mistaking his feelings for Will for being sick to coming out to El. At what point did he realize his feelings?

What I did enjoy about these two chapters though is my portrayal of Lonnie. Yes he's an abusive father but he is still a human and is not one dimensional.

All and all the dance is definitely my least favorite tittled chapter but not too bad.
