A Matter of Time

Kryoz paced around angrily. Thunder rumbled in the distance from an approaching storm brewing above the ocean. The remaining abilitors sat around a large palm tree. The sea stretched out to the west.

"We have to fight back. We still have Kryoz, Flom, and Tucker for their physical abilities. Surely we can still fight back." Blarg said as he picked the bark off of a twig.

"Against Shade who can create a whole army, Nycta who can pin us down, and Neo who can control any or all of our friends with wicked strong abilities?" Flom said.

"We can't just give up on them." Willow said.

"We aren't." Tucker stated harshly, "We just have to think about ourselves too. If we are all captured, Aytrix will be the most powerful man in the world."

"Definitely his goal. I hate being used to take over the world." Blarg sighed.

Kryoz kicked the sand under his feet, "This pisses me off! Why the fuck did we split up so much?! That's how they picked us off!" No one replied. Kryoz grit his teeth and thunder crackled in the distance. He was so stressed. At any moment, Neo could show up and threaten him and the others with Smii7y. Kryoz wasn't sure he could make that choice. The Thirteen were his family and Smii7y was his best friend.

He lost Smii7y, Grizzy, Byze, and Puffer all because he wouldn't fight back. He ran away instead of standing and fighting. Now it was a matter of survival. Was he being a coward?

No. His ability was wickedly powerful and the last thing was to use it against his friends. Neo would not hesitate to do so. Lightning flashed in the distance when he clenched his fist.

"That looks bad. We should probably seek cover." Nogla offered while looking at the dark clouds.

"I think so too." Tucker agreed.

Helicopter blades echoed in the sky. "They are back?" Willow asked with fear in her voice. Everyone stood up.

Blarg tilted his head to listen better. "I'm done running. We need to make our final stand to get our friends back." Kryoz snapped.

"I agree." Tucker smirked and joined Kryoz on the beach.

"Wait. It's not Aytrix's helicopter. This one only has one rotor." Blarg said.

"Are you sure, Blarg?" Nogla asked.

Blarg nodded, "I recognized Aytrix's helicopter. This one only has one turboshaft engine. Aytrix's has two." They joined Tucker and Kryoz on the sand. A helicopter headed for them. It wasn't the helicopter they had been running from for about a week. It was small and bright yellow.

"What do we do?" Flom asked.

"Is it Aytrix?" Willow asked.

"I don't think so." Blarg replied.

"If it is, I'm going to give him a piece of my mind." Kryoz growled. His fingers tingled with electricity. He was ready to put an end to this for good. Thunder rumbled in the distance.

"I'll get a closer look." Tucker said as he transformed into a small robin. He flew close to the water to avoid being seen. Kryoz watched the helicopter closely for any hostile behavior. The helicopter was almost upon them and Tucker changed back from a bird.

"I don't think they are hostile but I didn't see any markings or logos." Tucker explained. The helicopter started to hover in place and descend towards the beach, blowing sand in their faces. Nogla took off his glasses in case he needed his ability. Willow backed up to stay out of the way and seek protection.

It landed and the side door opened. A young woman stepped out. She was short. She had brown hair tied into a ponytail. She wore skinny jeans and combat boots. The odd thing was that she had a meter katana on her back. Kryoz didn't want to know if she knew how to wield it. "Good. Titan was right." She said once the helicopter blades stopped. She had a British accent.
