DELIA WONDERED IF HER ESCAPISM WAS HEALTHY.

She wondered if she had replaced dependence on drugs with dependence on a person. She also pondered the idea that it was neither.

She had no idea what loving someone was like or even liking someone enough to stick around for more than a few weeks. So she decided she shouldn't think a new relationship could be potentially harmful to whatever mixed-up, somewhat positive journey she'd found herself on.

While she didn't enjoy the feeling of vulnerability that being with Chris brought, the exposure was also strangely comforting. It felt as though he could see right through her, to both the ugly and the alright, and still chose to stick around. Somewhere weaved into her cynical thoughts, she knew this meant something, that it was significant. Chris was important- not just as a valuable friend, another creative soul, or even a respectable roommate, because he had become much more than that now.

Chris, on the other hand, had found himself worried. He had no idea what Delia wanted in a relationship or what sort of partner he should be. She wasn't quite as skilled in communication as Chris was. This was why he had yet to discuss his worries with her, afraid of giving her the notion that he cared too much or that she should feel pressured into a 'real' relationship.

He also wasn't sure what he'd define as a real relationship, as not much felt very surface level with Delia. They knew each other a little too well for that, and Chris particularly had surmised that there was no way he'd ever be fully comfortable just being friends. Of course he'd respect Delia's wishes in whatever happened to their relationship, but he knew he was too far gone in his feelings to ever feel normally about her again.

But if Delia was able to comfortably articulate her feelings, she'd tell him that he was exactly who she needed him to be. That he always had been.
