Sydney knocked softly on the office door before entering, a concerned look on her face. "Ma'am, we were already approached by Disha's office," she said hesitantly.
Anushka leaned back in her chair, her expression calm and calculating. "That goes to the waste bin now."
"But ma'am," Sydney began to protest.
Anushka stood up abruptly, her presence instantly intimidating. She walked towards Sydney, her gaze piercing. "Watch my office for some time," Anushka said with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes.
Sydney nodded, swallowing hard. "Yes, ma'am."
Anushka grabbed her coat and purse, striding out of her office. She drove swiftly towards the NYPD headquarters, her mind focused and determined. As she walked in, the usual buzz of the precinct quieted, eyes following her with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. They all knew that someone was in trouble today.
Anushka made her way to Ranveer's office, finding him standing there, facing the wall covered in photos and newspaper clippings. The intensity of his focus was palpable.
"Honey," she called softly.
Ranveer turned around, surprise lighting up his face. "Honey..." He walked towards her, his hands gently grasping her shoulders. "Why are you here?"
"Well, you weren't home last night either, so I thought I'd come check on you," she said, a hint of anger in her eyes.
Ranveer sighed deeply. "You know... I've been under pressure ever since Khalid escaped from the base. I hope you saw the news; all the pressure is on me."
"Yeah, I saw the news... But listen to me, you can't take it all on your shoulders." She hugged him tightly. "I need you at home," she said, her voice softening.
He hugged her back, feeling the weight of her concern.
"At least do you remember what day it is?" she asked, pulling back to look at him.
"Oh my... I'm so sorry, is it our anniversary?" he asked, sheepishly.
"No, dummy, it's your birthday," she said with a playful roll of her eyes.
Ranveer's eyes widened in surprise. "I completely forgot."
Anushka pulled a small gift box from behind her back. "Happy Birthday, Honey!" she said, pulling him in for a kiss. "For the best husband ever."
Ranveer hugged her tightly. "What would I do without you?" he murmured, kissing her again.
A sudden knock on the door interrupted their moment. It was Jake, holding a thick file. "Sorry for interrupting, Chief. The Reaper case file is here."
"What Reaper case?" Anushka asked, her curiosity piqued.
Ranveer sighed. "Yeah, I forgot to tell you. Connor asked me to lead this one. That's why I'm trying to find Khalid as soon as possible."
