❤️AMELIA❤️

The ride is calm and steady. I am seated at the backseat, close to the windows. I focused my tears-filled eyes on the passing buildings, statues and all the aesthetics of the city. It should be enough to cheer me up. It's my first time out of my small fishing town. I have never been around this place before.

But no matter the wonderful nature of the beautiful city, my heart is still aching.

I looked at left fingers. The beautiful ring on one of them reminds me of the shiny stones I usually find in the river. I lost my hook to the river most times and I would dive in just to find it because uncle will be mad at me. I pick up a lot of shiny stones and play with them whenever I am bored and lonely.

I have no friends. No one in the town likes to associate with me. They all like Blanca and Ella instead. My life is very quiet and busy. It involves a routine. Wake up, do house chores, go to the river to fish and then take them to the store to sell. It goes like that every blessed day of my life since I was fourteen.

And I have gotten very used to it. To the extent of loving it. Especially my time at the river. Sometimes I think about mermaids and dolphins. I wished they could show up and be my friends.

But that's impossible.

Dolphins hardly show up in our town's river.

And mermaids? I heard they are just fairytales. But I love imagining them. I love the river. It makes my life looks beautiful before my eyes.

Now, this has come to change it. It has come to disrupt my peaceful life.

A contract marriage, he say.

I let out a breathless scoff. This is not even a real marriage. He wants me for political reasons.

Why me?

Why did he pick me?

Eight years of my life?

I can't believe this. I can't even stop thinking about what he said back there.

His awful threats;

"If you don't sign the damn contract, you, your uncle and his family will have no roof over their heads because I am going to start by burning down that tent you call a fucking house."

"I will make sure you get no help from anywhere in this entire country. I am Vincenzo Di Montero. I can do more than you can imagine.'

"One more thing, Once you are married to me, you are not allowed to be touched by any man. Try breaking this rule and I will send your dead body as a package to your family."

My heart skipped a beat when he said all that. It was very disturbing. Especially when he said he would burn down our house. That's awful.

He is very dangerous.

His name alone screams terror.

I don't want to marry him!

I can't spend eight years of my life with him. I have never dreamt of marrying someone like him.

I shuddered all through the meeting with him. He gives me shivers.

Oh God.

I am not marrying him!

I instantly took off the ring from my finger. I can't marry a very scary and dangerous man all for his political aim.

But uncle's words came to my head.

"I took you in after my brother died, Amelia. I raised you along with my daughters knowingly fully well that i couldn't afford it but I still raised you.'
