You'll Learn to Love Me (Leo Valdez x OC)

Laylana Jackson

So I know I've written this months after beginning to release chapters. But I thought it would be useful to have a character sheet to give a bit more explanation to Laylana's character, her personality and her powers. (Also might be useful for me to keep track of what she can and can't do) 

BASIC INFO

Name: Laylana Ann Jackson
Nicknames/Aliases: Layla, Lana, Queen of Shadows/Darkness
Birthday and Age: January 2nd, age 16 (as of The Lost Hero section) 
Height: 5'8 (yes she's two inches taller than Leo)
Eye Colour: Blue 
Hair Colour/Style: Straight, black
Defining Features: Laylana has various scars over her body, including massive scars all along her back and the back of her shoulders/partially her neck. 
Clothing Choice: Laylana almost always wears heavy clothing during the winter seasons, as she is very susceptible to the cold. During the warmer months, she usually sticks to a t-shirt that'll cover her back, and a pair of joggers with her combat boots. 
Sexuality: Bisexual
Gender: Female

FAMILY INFO 

Mother: Sally Jackson (Adoptive). Sally adopted Laylana as a newborn after her biological mother, Sally's best friend, died giving birth. Sally and Laylana have always been very close, especially after the Battle of Manhattan.

Father: Paul Blofis (Step-Father). Paul was the only fatherly figure that Laylana had. When her mom was married to her ex-stepfather Gabe, she was terrified of him and always avoided him when she could. She sometimes slips up and calls him "dad".

Erebus (Godly Parent). Erebus is the primordial God of darkness. He has various children with Nyx, the Goddess of night, but only one demigod child, which is Laylana. He took a while to claim her, and even after he finally did he did not appear before her or talk to her in any way.

Siblings: Percy Jackson (Adoptive Older Brother). Laylana and Percy are attached at the hip, and have been since they were kids. They dealt with their abusive ex-stepfather together, and even when it was revealed Percy was a demigod, he refused to leave Laylana behind, considering she was originally assumed to be a mortal, until her mother confirmed otherwise. 

Nico Di Angelo ("Underworld" Brother). Laylana and Nico are two of the only children of the Underworld. When they met, Laylana promised his older sister, Bianca, that she would look after him after she left camp. After Nico disappeared, Laylana searched for months to try and help him. It wasn't until the Battle of Manhattan that they realized how much they needed one another, and became just as close as Percy and Laylana were.

FRIEND INFO

Annabeth Chase: Laylana and Annabeth were not close at first, and constantly butted heads. It wasn't until Annabeth was kidnapped and forced to hold up the sky that they became close. Laylana was originally the one who took it from Artemis first, before her brother followed. Annabeth realized then how much Laylana actually cared. They became very close afterwards. Other than Silena, Annabeth is the only one who knows  that Laylana is bisexual.

Will Solace: Will didn't know much about Laylana, he and his siblings often stayed away from the Daughter of Erebus as her energy leaked darkness and shadows. But, he was the only one out of his siblings who believed she could survive her injuries after the Battle of Manhattan. He spent over a week making sure she survived the initial wounds, and continued to travel to check up on her in the following months after she returned home. They're relatively close friends, her always going to Will for someone to talk to (or if she injures herself)

Silena Beauregard: Before Silena passed away, Laylana developed a friendship with the girl. They weren't the closest of friends, as the other Aphrodite kids were scared of Laylana. But they occasionally hung out when Laylana needed a girls' day, and went to Silena for advice when she was figuring out her sexuality. Silena was also the first girl that Laylana had a crush on.

POWERS

Shadow-Travel: Much like Nico, Laylana can use the shadows to teleport to another place that she has in mind. She figured out how to use it after she was claimed by her father, and much like Nico, was not good at it at first. She would often over-exert herself, or end up in places that she didn't mean to be. She taught Nico how to control his shadow-traveling abilities when he finally accepted her as his sister, though she definetely did not anticipate the two of them ending up in China. With overuse of the power, the molecules making up her body could deteriorate and end up turning her into shadows.

Shadow-Shift: This ability is relatively new to Laylana as of The Lost Hero. She is able to transform into an animal, though has only used the form of a bird so far, with the help of her shadows. The only downside to this is that it takes up a lot of energy, especially if she does it in daylight, as she requires the darkness to fuel her body and mind.

Shadow-Manipulation: Laylana can control the darkness and shadows with her thoughts and hands. She can morph shadows into a shape she wants, sometimes weapons, and use them to her advantage. The most common way she uses this power is to blind her enemies, and reduce their other senses. If she concentrates enough, her enemy's hearing, sense of touch, smell etc. can all be taken away. The other way she tends to use it is to shield herself or her friends, letting her shadows take the brunt of any damage, or to make them virtually invisible in the dark.

Soul Communication: Although Laylana is not a child of Hades, she has had some luck communicating with the dead. She has been brought to the Underworld a few times, and even before she was claimed she could understand the souls. Although she has no strong control over them like Nico, she can still communicate with them easily.
