Chapter 1
(Migona pronounced like Ma-go-na)
I released a sigh as I helped my mother with the laundry, shivering slightly from the cold. After 17 years, you would think I would be used to the cold. We looked over as a giant creature walked into the village. My mother frowned at the sight, before going into the hut with the laundry. I raised an eyebrow but ignored it before running over to the giant creature, as Katara and Sokka, two of my closet friends climbed down with a bald kid in their arms; Sokka was a year younger then me and Katara, his sister, was two years younger, but we had been friends for as long as I could remember.
They explained that they had found the boy in the ice, but how any one could have survived very long like that was impossible.
When I got back to the hut, my mother looked over from where was preparing dinner with a frown." I want you to stay away from that boy, Migona." She told me her dark blue eyes narrowed.
I looked more like my more like my mother then my father, with my dark blue eyes and dark brown hair.
" Why?" I asked and she responded with sigh, " Those tattoos of his mark him as an Air bender. The fire Nation is going to be looking for him."
" You think, he's the Avatar?" I asked wide eyed.
" Please Migona, I don't want you getting hurt by being involved with this." She was pleading now.
" Yes, mother" I muttered looking away.
The next morning, the whole village gathered to meet the mysterious Airbender..
Katara pulled him out of the tent and my eyes widened at the sight of his tattoos, blue arrows that wrapped around his whole body. The symbol of an Airbender, my mother had said.
" Aang meet the whole village. Whole village.... Aang". Everyone continued to stare at him, until Gran Gran stepped toward him. Everyone went back to what they were all doing, while mother pulled me off to do my chores.
A few hours later, I was gathering wood for the night when the ground began to shake, making me drop the wood I was holding. My mother ran over to me and grabbed my hand, pulling me toward the hut. She pulled me inside and over to a corner of the hut, where she pulled back the rug to reveal a trap door; the same spot she hid me in when the village was attacked several years before.
" Stay here, and don't come out until I tell you too." She told me, and I frowned in confusion.
" But, mother-" I tried to say but I was cut off as we heard a crash outside.
" Quickly" she told me and I hid.
I heard shuffling as the soldiers entered our home, and began their search. I covered my mouth to try and steady my breathing, but just as I thought they were gone, the trap door flew open and I was pulled out by the hood of coat. I fought against the person holding me, before I was pushed into a crowd of people, my mother wrapping her arms around me, protectively.
Gran Gran was pulled out of the crowd by a guy with a scar, who I guessed was their leader." He will be about this age....master of all the elements" he said before pushing her back into the crowd and Katara caught her.
Aang wasn't here; after he and Katara had returned from the abandoned fire nation ship, Sokka had kicked him out the village in an attempt to protect us.
He blasted out a flame to scare us and I held up my hands as the flames got to close. There was a bunch of gasps and I opened my eyes to see that the flame had stopped in front of me, I put my hands down and the flames disappeared. " Seize that one." He ordered, a look of confusion on his face, and two solders moved toward me.
I was pulled forward and my mother held her hands out to stop them. Sokka charged at the firebender from behind only to get flipped into the snow but he swung at him again and was knocked to the ground. Sokka's boomerang came back and hit the firebender in the head, angering him even more, but as he was about to attack him, Aang came out of no where on a penguin and knocked him over. The fire bender was flipped through the air, and flat on his face. I bit back back laugh as his helmet was knocked off and landed on his butt.
Cheers rang out from the children in the crowd as Aang greeted Sokka and Katara, though Sokka was less enthused about the Airbender's return.
" You're the Airbender? You're the Avatar?" The firebender asked, as Aang blasted him and the others with snow, which quickly melted. " I've been waiting years preparing for this encounter, training, meditating. Your just a child."
" Well, your just teenager." Aang replied, before he began to spin his staff in an attempt to deflect the firebender's attacks.
Aang made a deal with the firebender that he would go if he agreed not to hurt anyone. They led Aang to ship but the firebender stopped as he looked at me." Bring that one as well for questioning" my eyes widened and my mother started crying, as she collpased to her knees." Not my baby" I heard her mumble as I was led behind Aang. Once we were on the ship, Aang was led blow deck but I was forced to follow the firebender, who grabbed my arm and pulled me along behind him.
I was shoved into a room and he stood in the doorway." Who are you? How can you firebend"
" I'll be back and if you don't answer, I won't be as nice" He said turning away then with that he was gone, closing and locking the door behind him. I looked around finding nothing but a mat on floor. I slid to the ground and curled into a ball, just as footsteps ran passed my door. I heard a crash and then I felt the ship tip, I fell side ways and frowned before running over to the door. I tried to get it open but it wouldn't budge, I sat back down, having a feeling that Aang had gotten away. I laid down on the mat, after removing my coat, and closed my eyes, allowing myself to drift off into a dreamless sleep.
Third person POV
Zuko stopped in front of the room where the Water tribe girl was being held and sighed before opening the door. He looked around with a frown when he didn't see her where he had left her, but froze when he saw her laying on the bed asleep. She was wrapped in her coat, which acted as a blanket but in Zuko's opinion it looked more like a shield. She looked so peaceful to him but he wondered, how could a girl like her be strong enough to bend fire, or why she was with those peasants, instead of with others like her. He let out another sigh before turning and quietly closing the door behind him, careful not to disturb her. He walked back onto the deck where his Uncle sat drinking tea.
" How is our guest getting along, My nephew" he asked as Zuko sat down to join him." She's asleep"
" Good, but I wonder what you are planning to do with her, she is after all a Firebender"
" She may be a Firebender but she will never be of the Firenation" Zuko told him as he sipped his tea." That may be true, but you do have to admit, she is very beautiful" His Uncle told him before going off to bed.
Meanwhile somewhere ahead of them
Aang, Sokka and Katara, are on top of Appa, Aang's flying bison." Why would Migona hide her bending from us?" Sokka demanded and Katara looked at him." Maybe she thought that we would hate her if we knew"
" Who's Migona?" Aang asked them.
" She was the girl that they took on board the ship with you" Katara explained." Right before they took you, he tried to scare us and she caught the fire in her hands."
" That's amazing!" Aang cried
" But we have no idea what that guy could do to her" Katara pointed out and Sokka crossed his arms, eyes narrowed." What do you care, she's a traitor now."
" I don't think even she knew, did you see how scared she was" Katara asked and Aang frowned" When I was on the ship, that guy with the scar, he dragged her off somewhere, but I didn't see her after that."
" All we can do is hope that Migona can get herself off the ship"
The picture is of what Migona looks like in this book.
