Her dreams were filled with anger toward herself, she suffered nightmares every night. Visions so gruesome, usually of the night her parents died. Then she shot up after feeling a cold liquid being dumped all over her, she opened her eyes and was blinded by the sun shining in from the open windows, her body did not know how to react, she stood up, covered in water "You looked a little dirty mud blood! Also care to explain why my jelly beans are missing? did you eat them?" Pansy held up the box "Can you not read? hello?" Esme didn't know how to respond, she was awakened by cold water and her brain wasn't processing anything "I'm sorry, ye-"
"I ate them" Both of their heads turned and Draco walked toward the chair in front of them and sat down "Oh? you did? then it's okay" Pansy giggled, Esme watched how Pansy's diameter changed when Draco came around, it was obvious she liked him. Esme looked at Draco and he just stared back with a smirk on his face then Pansy shot her head back to her "Im watching you mud blood" She dropped the box by Esme's feet then started to walk away "Throw that away for me would you" Her voice ended with a evil laugh as she touched Draco's shoulder, then she walked upstairs. Draco shook his head, Esme bent down to pick up the box and Draco studied her then stopped as she looked at him "Thank you" She said "You know you should read things in case. Im amazed how much trouble you have gotten into since you have been here and that's just a few hours. This will be a long year mud blood" She threw away the box and walked upstairs, ignoring him. She put on a dry uniform and walked back downstairs, grabbing her robe off the couch and she could feel his eyes on her, she turned to him "Can you show me where the classes are?" She felt stupid asking such a question "No" He stood up and walked out of the common room, that was an obvious answer coming from a piece of shit, he got under her skin and she just met him, something about him intrigued her though, he hated mud blood's but tended to help her. Esme then spent her morning trying to find her first class, the castle was huge and there were so many floors that she had to wait five minutes for every staircase to reach her. After twenty minutes she found the defence against the dark arts class, everything about that class sounded terrifying, the dark arts was the one thing she hated more than herself, even the blonde boy, nothing scared her more than evil. She walked into the class and was instantly stopped by the Professor "Late on the first day I see Miss Jones" Her heart sank, she already felt like she was fucking up on her first day, but thanks to Draco he was too much of a self-centred prick he didn't show her where the class was. She sat down next to a Gryffindor girl with curly brown hair and she was very intrigued with her book it seemed "Hello," Esme said, "Are you talking to me?" Confusion hit Esme "Yes? Am I interrupting your book or something?" The girl giggled "No, it's just odd, a Slytherin talking to someone like me. You never see that, unless it's not a very nice conversation" She looked back down at her book "People like you?" Esme raised her eyebrow "Muggle-borns. Mudbloods, like you guys like to call us. I have a whole record in my head of how many times I've been called that" Esme looked away from the girl, she didn't know there were others like her, she grew up thinking she was the only one and she finally met someone like her. "I thought I was the only one" Esme whispered to the girl, her head shot up from out of her book and she turned her whole body "Wait...you? a muggle born? how is that possible? you are a Slytherin, that's never been a thing in history" Esme giggled, she felt confident around this girl "I know, so I have been told, I'm rare. Well, not in those good words. It's been hell being with the others. Take my advice dont eat Pansy's jelly beans" Esme whispered, the curly brown hair girl laughed "What is your name?" She asked "Esme Jones, you?"
"Hermione Granger at your service" She put out her hand, inviting her to shake it, Esme took her hand and shook it. She felt safe to be herself now, it felt like she was looking into the mirror but she didn't hate what she saw anymore. "So Esme, see any cute boys yet?" It was almost impossible for Emse not to paste a huge smile on her face, she had never once gossiped with a girl her age "No but I encountered the worst boy ever" Hermione scooted her chair closer "So, I don't know if you know him but hes in Slytherin also, I was locked in a dark room by Pansy and her minions and he did help me but he is still annoying. He has very blonde hair and his eyes are a very light shade of grey, he even took the blame for me eating the jelly beans" She giggled to herself "But even though he helped me he is a terrible guy, I despise him already"
"Wait, Draco Malfoy? him helping a muggle born? no way"
"What an odd name, but yeah he did"
"That does not sound like him. How strange" Hermione faced her body away from Esme to pay attention to the Professor "Now that everyone is almost here it is time to explain your assignment for tomorrow. Dementors" Esme froze hearing those words, She didn't even know what that meant but something in her felt cold, it sounded familiar. "Sorry Im late Professor" She turned her head and saw Draco walked in, he tossed a green apple into the air and then caught it, taking a bite out of it "No eating in my class Malfoy"
"Yeah yeah" He sat down next to Pansy and his eyes instantly hit hers, Esme took a deep breath, he took another loud bite out of his apple, every noise echoed in her ears, she could almost hear him swallow. She had to looked away but didn't want to give the satisfaction that he won the staring contest, she could tell he was very stubborn. She bounced her leg, her head was filled with dark thoughts about him, wanting to cut her eyes out for even looking at him, he made her blood boil, even though she wasn't looking at him, his eyes were still looking at her. "Now your assignment is to read about these...evil creatures and come up with a presentation about what they are and especially what they do," The professor said, her heart sank, not because of the assignment, but the fact she had to speak in front of the people who judged her and the boy she hated, there was no way that would be easy.
