"Sit" Severus let go of her arm and pointed to the first bed in a row of many others, the room was very large and had curtains separating each bed. Just like a Hospital. Not many thoughts were passing through her head, all she could fixate on was the burning sensation in her hand, the pain was almost too much and it became numb. Severus and an older lady rushed over to Esme "Hello, I am Madam Pomfrey, what is the matter dear?" Esme raised her hand to show her "A-Acid" She struggled to speak "Oh dear, I don't know if-"
"Do what you can Madam Pomfrey" Severus cut her off to not worry Esme. "Yes, of course. I will be back" She quickly walked away "Miss Jones, next time be very careful, this place is far more advanced than your muggle world" He sounded annoyed as he crossed his arms "I was professor, I don't know how that happened. It wasn't because of me I can assure you that!" Severus raised an eyebrow "Are you...accusing someone of this? if so...who?" Esme hesitated, if she told him about how she was being treated then Pansy would know it was her who told. She had a feeling this was Pansy's doing but she was too scared to tell him "I-I don't know. I guess I was just clumsy then" She looked down at her lap and wiped the almost dry tears. "Very well, treat this as a lesson" Severus walked out of the Hospital Wing. Esme knew it was her and she didn't expect her to go this far by completely burning Esme's skin off, that was the most intense form of bullying she had ever experienced. She was now terrified of Pansy, she never wanted to speak, look, or sleep in the same room as her again, but she had no choice. "Alright dear, this shall do the job" Madam Pomfrey walked over and was holding a jar of black mud-looking cream "What is that smell" Esme covered her nose "Honestly I never found out what the smell is but it should heal that" Esme took a deep breath "W-Will it scar?" When she asked, her voice was shaky, she was scared to hear the answer "Only time will tell dear" Her facial expression told Esme that it would probably not go back to normal, it would in fact scar. Madam Pomfrey put on gloves and then poured some on her hands. She rubbed Esme's hand with it, she started to cry in pain again, trying her hardest not to scream bloody murder. "Now this might make you-" Esme's eyes start to roll back and she fell back onto the bed "-Pass out" Madam Pomfrey stood there with a little giggle. She pulled off the gloves and threw them away, she sat down on the chair next to the bed, reading the stopwatch, timing how long Esme was passed out for. Half an hour had passed and she started to wake up "Good morning sleepy head" Madam Pomfrey said, "What happened?" Esme asked as she slowly sat up "Well the cream I put on your hand tends to make people uhm pass out, I should have warned you sooner. My apologies" Esme stood up, there was a wrap on her hand "Now, you will need to apply this once a week until it heals" She passed her a small vile of liquid "This won't make me pass out right?" She said following a nervous laugh "No, this won't. Now, you be more careful" Esme smiled and then left the Hospital Wing. Her thoughts now, unfortunately, came back since the pain died down, she was nervous about showing her face around after what just happened. It was around supper time so she headed down to the Great Hall. She stopped right before the doors, her heartbeat started to quicken and she hid her wrapped hand under her robe sleeve. She walked into the Great Hall and she could feel eyes hit her from every direction. Hermione came into her view, she was waving down Esme from the Gryffindor table. Esme sat down "What happened in potions?" Hermione asked "Acid spill, im okay now. Madam Pomfrey put some horrid cream on it that made me pass out" She laughed to make the conversation less harsh" It's good you're alright" They all started to eat and have conversations about the normal school drama but it seemed to Esme that her school drama was way more interesting. Some girls were talking about how another girl was calling them rude names or the guys were saying how they didn't know which girl was the hottest. Esme was full-on burnt with acid because of who she was, those purebloods really made it known how much they hated her. She sat there and just listened to everyone talk, she was very quiet the whole time. Every sound made her flinch and every chew noise made her clench her jaw, she was on edge every second she sat in this room with people, constantly looking over her shoulder, waiting for Pansy to show up. Hermine and Esme decided to leave supper early to go for a walk around the school to give Esme a full tour "So Esme, what will you wear for your date tonight with Harry?" Hermione said "It's not a date" Esme stopped walking and looked at Hermione, Hermione raised her eyebrow "is it?" Esme asked "Definitely"
"Well, I don't have anything to wear. Just clothes I brought here" She picked at her nails as they walked "Wait, do you have a wand yet?"
"No"
"Oh, I suggest you go to Olivanders on your little date" Hermione wrapped her arm around Esme's shoulder as they headed to the entrance of the Gryffindor common room. The entrance was a huge painting of a fat lady who was holding a wine glass "Evening" Hermione said to the painting "Did you just talk to a painting?" Esme was confused "So I'm just a painting I see!" Esme looked up and saw the lady in the painting move "Cool, I mean I'm sorry, I'm new to all this" The lady in the painting stuck her chin in the air "I suppose it's alright. What can I do for you girls?"
"I need to grab Esme something"
"Passworrrrd" The lady sang to the wine glass "Caput Draconis" Hermione sounded very annoyed and impatient and the painting slowly opened "I will be back" Hermione slithered threw the crack of the painting and the wall. Esme sat down on an old wooden bench, she bounced her leg as she stared down at her wrapped arm, picking at it. The fear was still there about it not healing and scarring, she hated being reminded of her past and it always haunted her. Especially that day her parents died when she almost died. Screaming echoed in her head, her mother's screams and all she could hear was her name being screamed over and over. Esme just sat there, her eyes started to water as she squeezed them shut, she hoped for the voices to leave her alone, to let her have a moment of peace. "Here we are, this is perfect. I also found a pair of back heels for you, we look the same size" Hermione's voice snapped Esme out of it, the voices instantly stopped but her heart was still beating fast. Esme quickly stood up, Hermione was holding a silky long brown dress "I wore it once for a date with Ron, it didn't suit me but I think it would look lovely on you" Esme grabbed it from her "Thank you, hopefully Harry likes it. Is he the flirtatious type?"
"No, hes pretty shy, I'm shocked he asked you on a date" Esme giggled "Me too" The painting closed behind them and they both walked away. Esme headed to the Slytherin common room to change into the dress. She walked into the common room and there weren't a lot of people, just some girls studying and some boys playing cards. Esme walked into the girls' dorm, she saw Pansy and the other girls sitting by Pansy's bed, as soon as they all saw her they immediately stopped talking "How's your hand mud blood?" Pansy asked with a smirk "It's better, thanks for asking" Esme walked into the changing room and took her clothes off, she tried not to look into the mirror, she couldn't even remember the last time she looked at herself naked. She wanted to be able to look at herself and like what she saw, her eyes glanced at the mirror as she was about to slip the dress on, instead of looking away she stared at herself, her eyes roaming her bare skin in the reflection, her hips were wide, she had a slight pudgy stomach, no thigh gap. Her eyes slowly moved to her chest and her brown hair just reached her collarbone. A small smile appeared on her lips as her eyes glistened with love, she loved her body. But the love then was met with confusion on how she had never seen that before, she lived with that body her whole life and never once looked at it that way ever. Esme then slipped the tight brown dress on her body, it sucked to every curve, every inch. Esme brushed her hair, putting it in a low messy bun, leaving some strands out by each side of her face. She put on some silver hoops and a short silver chain with an E pendant. The black heels were slipped and some dark red lipstick was applied, followed by some mascara. Esme took one final look at herself and then walked out of the changing room, all of the girls stared in awe, even Pansy looked shocked "Where the hell are you going dressed like that?" Pansy asked standing up "A date" Esme smiled as she turned away, she felt powerful, she felt seen. She left the common room and went down to the front of the school, Harry was standing by the doors "Wow, you look...amazing" He said with wide eyes as he scanned her "Thank you, you look great as well"
"Shall we" They walked out of the school and Harry pulled out his wand "Accio" He said with a swift movement with his wand, a broom came flying in front of them "I know it's not a fancy carriage but it will do" Harry put his hand out for Esme to take as she sat sideways on the broom, he then sat on the broom "Hold on tight" Without any second the broom went flying into the air, Esme grabbed Harry's waist as they flew in the air, she squeezed her eyes closed, she was scared of heights but she trusted Harry "Isn't it beautiful up here?" He said. Esme was scared to look but she had to face her fears, her eyes slowly opened as she stared at the land below her, stars lit the whole sky, it was beautiful "Yeah, it is" She said, soaking in the nature around her. She started to realize how much things were changing for her, she was slowly finding meaning in her life, after all the bullying, hate and destruction, in this moment she was finally living her dream, to express herself. They eventually landed in Diagon Alley, which was lit with street lamps and the streets were cobblestone. Harry helped her off the broom and they walked into The Three Broom Sticks, it was an odd-looking place, it had only a few people inside since it was getting to be night. "Go find a spot, I'll order" Esme nodded her head and walked to a booth in the corner of the building, the people looked up at her and stared, but it felt like they felt blessed to be in her presence like she was the most gorgeous girl they had ever seen. She sat down and crossed her legs. Harry walked over with two drinks "Here, this is butter beer" He sat down and pushed a glass of yellow foamy liquid "It looks vile" She giggled as she picked it up and smelt it "It's sweet smelling" She brought the glass to her lips and took a sip, leaving foam on her upper lip "Here" Harry grabbed a napkin and wiped her upper lip, his green eyes hit her brown ones, her stomach filled with butterflies "Thanks" He made her nervous, she lost her train of thought "Sorry if that was weird" Harry quickly pulled his hand away and looked down "It wasn't" She smiled "This is very good" She put the glass down "Told yah, I drink this stuff every evening after school"
"Wait, is this alchoclic?" Esme asked
"Yeah...I forgot to say that" Esme gulped the drink "Cool"
"So, what's your story Esme" Harry leaned back into the seat "My story...well, I'm a muggle-born who lost my parents to something dark, uhm, I was put in a terrible orphanage after that happened, it was for muggles, I was the only witch there. Anyway, They found me hidden under my parent's bed. When I arrived there I was harshly bullied every day. I won't get into it but Im happy I'm here and not there anymore. What's your story, Harry Potter?" Harry looked upset after hearing her life story "Im sorry you went threw that. You didn't deserve it you know. My life story is sort of similar I would say. I lost my parents to something dark as well. I was a baby. I had to live with my muggle relatives, I was bullied by them a lot. Now im here and happier than ever. It's great here when you get over the bullying, I was bullied by the Slytherins a lot, especially Malfoy" Esme's stomach flipped when she heard his name, she didn't know why "Draco, yeah hes a dick. I've had my encounters a lot with him, he's terrible" Deep down she felt like she was lying to herself, why every time she saw him her stomach flipped. Why someone so terrible and someone who reminded her of the kids in the orphanage whom she hated, why would he affect her so much, she's used to those people. Harry and Esme spent the rest of the time talking and getting to know each other, she started to really like Harry, he was handsome, smart, kind and funny and he brought back a little spark inside her that she lost. Esme forgot to get a wand because she was a little drunk from the butter beers that her and Harry drank. They got back to the school "I had a great time" Harry stood in front of her, he looked down at her lips slowly moving closer "Me too. I'll see you tomorrow" She moved around him and headed to the common room, she was stumbling down the corridors, trying to not get caught by Filch, Draco's voice told her that. She walked into the common room and stumbled up the stairs, dropping her heels out of her hand "Shit" She said as she giggled, picking them up and walking to the door of her dorm "Where were you?" A boy's voice said behind her, she quickly turned around and Draco was standing outside his dorm, he was wearing his pj's, a white t-shirt and green checkered pants "Why would it be your business?" She tilted her head and crossed her arms "Dumbledore made me house president, it's literally my job and if you don't tell me I will report you" He said with a smirk as he leaned on the door frame with his hand. Esme looked him up and down "You are?" Draco lifted off the door frame and stepped closer "Yes, so let me ask again mud blood, where were you?"
"Fine, I was out with a friend, better?" She rolled her eyes "You have friends now? congrats mud blood"
"Whatever Draco" She tried to turn around but he grabbed her arm "Hey!" She yelped "What friend did you wear this for? a boy?" Esme pulled her arm away "Why do you care? You don't give a shit about me you literally watched this happen and you said nothing to Snape" She held up the bandaged hand "I didn't see anything and I don't care it's my jo-"
"Yeah it's your job as house president, I get it. I was with a boy" She cut him off "Oh? who would be interested in you?" He crossed his arms and snapped his neck back "Im actually interested in him, he's kind, unlike you" Draco smirked and looked down, he took another step closer and leaned down to her ear "Well, it's an honour you're not interested in me mud blood" His whisper sent shivers down her spine, her stomach turned, she felt his breath still linger as he stood up, Draco turned around and opened the door "I-" He walked in the dorm and shuts the door, leaving her stunned between the two rooms, why did she feel like that, why didn't she just ignore him, why did she feel obligated to tell him. What was he doing? Why did she listen? So what if he was the house president,, he was cruel and made every inch of her skin crawl, but why just then did she feel some sort of guilt? Guilty of wanting him to open that door and insult her again, just him saying something to her. She felt as if she was mad.
