Sitting on an old wood stool, in a huge loud room, hundreds of eyes watching made her more anxious than before she sat down. As she waited for the hat to say her house all she heard were voices that were talking about her, their eyes told her a thousand words of what they thought about her. It didn't take much for her to understand someone's feelings, it was a burden. "Hmm, very shy but very smart indeed. I am sensing a complicated life but always the right ending....yes...SLYTHERIN!" The old hat screamed, the kids at each table begun to clap but the Slytherin table didn't seem too pleased about it, some did clap but were shushed by the older students. She slowly walked down the stairs and sat at the far end of the table, students pushed away from her and she had her little bubble of loneliness. It was never in her intentions to be here, she had no choice, no education about this school. It was all up to her to figure it out. "Isn't that the mud-blood with dead parents" This one girl whispered to her friend, not even trying to hide the fact she was near, no one cared, not even the people who shared the same abilities. She built up some confidence to pace her eyes around the table to see who she would be staying with, most of them glared and some looked away like they were scared to even be seen sitting by her. Her eyes then stopped when they met a pair of grey ones, he had messy platinum blonde hair and was wearing a black suit, he didn't look mean or disgusted by her, for once in her life someone actually saw her and didn't judge the first look. He smirked as he removed his gaze from hers and continued to eat his food, she wasn't hungry though, an appetite hadn't been a thing for a while, restless and hungry nights were all she knew. Even with all the food in front of her, she couldn't find the enjoyment of eating. "Miss, Jones. You will just need to follow your house then you will know where your common room is" A lady in green stood next to her "Thank you" she said quietly, nervous people would then make fun of her voice. "Students, it is late, time for bed! it is a big day tomorrow" The same lady shouted out, echoing throughout the room as students stood and started walking out. She started to walk with the group until three girls stopped her "Hi, what's your name?" All three of them were Slytherin girls, the one in the middle had short black hair and dark red lipstick on "Uhm, Esme" She said softly, avoiding eye contact, the other two girls giggled "Well, Im Pansy, this is Daphne and Tracey. Since you are new we thought to show you our little shortcut to the common room, it's a secret for us girls" Esme looked up at Pansy "Im supposed to follow the others" Pansy rolled her eyes but quickly put a smile on "Come on Esme, don't be so lame" Daphane said "Okay fine, I'll come" She started to walk with the three Slytherin girls, down a dark and quiet corridor "Uhm, are you sure this is the way?" Esme anxiously asked "Yes silly I know our secret short cut" The other girls laughed in unison. They reached an old metal door "New student always does the honours" Pansy had an evil smile as she crossed her arms "Where are the others?" Her eyes rolled again "It's a shortcut, duh" Esme walked up to the door, slowly grabbed the door handle and opened the door, she was hit with confusion then she felt herself flying inside the dark room, hitting the floor before hearing the door slam closed "HEY!" She stood up and started pulling and twisting the door handle, it was locked. "Let me out! please!" Giggling started behind the door "Sorry mud blood, can't do that" She screamed as she slammed on the metal door, the room was eerie and cold and there was no source of light at all, again like always she was alone. She hated the dark, the dark was the one place where she couldn't escape her burden, the voices would haunt her in the dark because that was the one place they lived. "Fuck-" She placed her palm on her forehead "No no no," She whined to herself as she covered her ears, thousands of voices started to echo through her eardrums, some she couldn't understand and some were degrading her, the voices were her weakness, they made her weaker than she already was. Esme backed up into the cold brick wall and dropped to the ground, she sat with her knees pressed against her chest with her arms wrapped around them, why did things like this seem to happen so often, that was the last time she would ever trust someone again. It felt like hours since she was locked in the dark room, she had spent the time crying and practicing her ways to shut the voices up. She started to hear sounds from outside the door, she shot her head up and saw the door slowly opening, a bright light started to come into view, the door fully opened and the light of someone's wand was blurring her sight "Are you going to get up or?" A boys voice came from behind the wand, his voice wasn't deep but he had a very soft tone, she slowly stood up and saw that same platinum hair of the boy at the Slytherin table, her assumptions were right, it was him "Sorry" She wiped her eyes and straightened her back, even at her worst she always tried to look her best "How did you know I was locked in here?" She started to walk a little bit behind him as she soothed herself by wrapping her arms around herself "They do this with every new mud blood, it wasn't hard to find you" She knew that was some sort of insult "Mud blood?" Her voice was still shaken and quiet "Dirty blood, people born by muggle parents, it's not liked by us if you haven't noticed" If she was hated so much by Slytherins why was she one of them? "Then why did you let me out?" She asked "Because you are still a Slytherin unfortunately, trust me I didn't want to but Snape would kill me if I didn't" He finished his sentence with a scoff "Oh" That was all she said until they arrived to a much more convincing door "Here we are, the real common room...do you know the password?" He asked Esme "No" He nudged her out of the way "Well it is out of your range mud blood" She stepped to the side "Pure blood," He said to the door as it slowly creaked open "Ladies first" She walked in and he followed after her, she was amazed by how large the room was, it was black and dark green, it had a fireplace with old wooden furniture surrounding the rest of the room "Wow," She said, not realizing she said it out loud, he watched her as she spun to capture the scenery of the room "What was your name mud blood?" He asked as he crossed his arms "Esme, Esme Jones" He looked her up and down "Now, Esme, how does someone like you end up a Slytherin? its very rare for that to happen, I don't even think it has ever happened" She stopped in her tracks and faced him "Maybe it was a mistake" He scoffed and shook his head "The hat never makes a mistake, there is something it saw that put you here. We are all here for the same reasons but you, anyway. I suggest you stay here and don't go adventuring off, Filch isn't the nicest" He started to walk toward the staircase leading to the dorms "Also, I noticed you didn't eat so there is food over there...please don't be noisy, I need my sleep" He started to walk up the stairs "Wait, what's your name?" She asked "Why should I give you my name?" She cracked a giggle for the first time since she had been there "Because I gave you mine" He leaned onto the railing and poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue "Im the guy who saved you from a harmless room, that made you cry which was pathetic by the way" He laughed to himself and walked up the stairs "Dick" She whispered as she walked over to the cupboards, seeing different snacks, stuff she had never seen before, she decided to take a box of jelly beans, it wasnt the most healthy option but it had been awhile since she had eaten jelly beans. She opened the box and started pouring them into her mouth, she opened her eyes and saw a name written on the box "Pansy" Her eyes widened as she stared at the box "Fuck my life" She threw the empty box in the garbage and walked upstairs to the girl's dorms. The dorms were clean and lit with lanterns on each bedside, the beds were draped with green silky curtains and the bedding was black, she found her bed and sat down, her bed was covered in water, she shot up and heard distant giggling in the bedroom. She shook her head then stormed out of the room and went back down to the common room. She wasn't mad about eating that girl's candy anymore because of the bullshit they had been pulling. The couch was the last resort for sleep now, she grabbed the throw blanket draped on the side and laid down, covering herself, she stared up at the ceiling. Her eyes closed and finally, she fell asleep.
