Esme opened her eyes to the sound of birds chirping and the sound of girls laughing as they ran out of the dorm room. She sat up and rubbed her eyes with her one hand then she looked down at her wrapped-up hand and sighed. The words "mud blood freak" Were written all over it. She stood up, unwrapped her hand and threw the wrap in the garbage. She looked down at her hand and it was healed already, it had scars all over it and the skin was not the same anymore. It was hard for her to look at her own hand. She put on her uniform and headed to class and on the way there she remembered the assignment that was due, the assignment she hadn't started. She walked into class and sat down next to Hermione "Hermione I need to see your notes"
"Morning Esme. Why do you need my notes? Did you not do the assignment when you got back?" Esme smiled at the thought of her events last night with Draco "No actually, I uh fell asleep"
"Well, here just take these I'll quickly make my own before it's my turn to present" Hermione gave her a piece of paper with lots of information on it. "Alright class, today is presenting day, I will choose random students to read us their research. Good luck to you all" The professor sat down at the back of the classroom and used his wand to close all the windows. Esme looked around the classroom to see if Draco was there to watch her make a fool of herself, she knew he would make fun of her, it was his nature. Esme sat there and tapped her hand on the desk as she anxiously waited to be called to the front of the class, as she listened to other students present she didn't have much hope in herself, but it's Hermione work she would be reading and she was the smartest student in her grade. "Alright good job Longbottom, next up is Miss Jones" Her heart sank as she heard her name being called out "Good luck Esme" Hermione whispered. Esme slowly stood up and started to walk to the front of the class, it looked like a long corridor and she had tunnel vision. She reached the front and turned around, holding the paper in front of her face, avoiding any eye contact with anyone "Introduce yourself" The professor said "I-I'm Esme Jones" She stuttered "Yeah, We know" Pansy's voice came from the crowd and others laughed. Esme took a deep breath as she was about to read the paper when the door swung open, Esme looked up and it was Draco walking in and then sitting down almost in front of her, more panic set in, she cared about his judgment, she cared about how he saw her, she didn't want him to see her this way. His face had a smirk on it and he crossed his arms and leaned into his chair, scanning her vulnerability. Her eyes went back to her paper "Dementors, Dementors are the most evil creatures to encounter, they are very large and powerful. They tend to linger in the dark and make their surroundings almost unbearable to be around. Like you're in the Arctic, frozen. They...They feed off your good memories and leave you with only the bad ones, killing you in the end-" Esme started to hear the voices again, but this time they showed her a vision, a vision of last year on the same day her parents died. She was sitting in the living room with her mother and father, watching the television. She could even hear the static of the television, it was like she was there again, back in time. The light outside the windows started to go black "Mom, what happened to the sun?" Esme said as she looked out the window "I don't know sweetheart, maybe an eclipse" Her mother said as her father came to the window to look. Then the door swung open and coldness roamed through the house, freezing every inch of the house in frost. Esme's mother grabbed her arm and held her close as her father stood in front of them both, shielding them from potential danger "Mom what's going on" Esme started to cry "Larry what's happening?" Her mother asked Esme's father "I'm not sure, I can barely see" A large, dark-cloaked figure flew into the house, almost like a black ghost. The figure flew up to them and a green light flashed as it started to suck the soul out of her father, Esme's mother started to scream and run down the hallway into a bedroom, locking the door. Esme started to cry "My darling I need you to hide okay, get under the bed" Her mother helped her under the bed, but before her mother could hide with her the bedroom door swung open, her mother put a finger to her mouth to tell her daughter to stay silent. Esme's mother was pulled out and lifted in the air. A green light flashed again as her mother fell on the ground, her soul was sucked out of her body right in front of Esme's eyes, she listened to her mother, stay silent. She didn't scream, she didn't cry. She laid there and watched her mother die. After the vision ended she grabbed her head and took a few steps backwards, she looked around the classroom and started to hyperventilate "Miss Jones?" The professor stood up, Esme felt tears start to form and she looked at Draco who looked concerned for her. She started to cry and ran out of the classroom, pressing her back against the wall "Alright students, that is why we rehearse our presentations" The professor said from inside the classroom. Everything started to make sense to her now, how she always felt this dark energy haunt her memories, her dreams, her life, she now knew what it was and how it came to be. The dementors killed her parents. She walked down the corridor and tossed the paper into the garbage, tears still streaming down her face, she walked outside the school and sat down on the steps, she felt like screaming and running away from everything. She stood up and started to run into the field, the tears started to fly off her face and her legs started to burn, she unclasped her robe and it went flying behind her, there was nothing stopping her from disappearing, no one would care anyway, she was a mud blood freak, she was a nobody. All of the positive thoughts she had last night after her encounter with Draco were gone, she was now back to the degrading feeling. Her vision became blurry from the tears, she tried to stop running but couldn't, her legs couldn't stop. Then she tripped on a branch, falling to the ground, hitting her head on a rock, knocking her out instantly.
