Standing outside of the hotel the wind tugged at her black wig, tousling it playfully. Walking down the path and crossing the bridge looking at the paths separating she looked down at her phone and noticed that a four-star hotel was nearby and took a turn to the right. While walking down the path next to the canal she passed a bar and a few rentals. Following the map in her hand she passed the Ponte del Pagan bridge made from limestone which connected the New Prison to the interpretation rooms in the Doge's Palace which passed over the Rio di Palazzo.

After walking for a few miles, she arrived at Hotel Moresco. The building exuded classic 19th-century Venetian style, its red façade catching her eye. Inside, the foyer welcomed her, and a poised man stood at the check-in desk. Behind him, a staircase led to the rooms, while to the right, a small restaurant awaited. On the left, a cozy bar or living room beckoned.

The man tilted his head at the computer and asked Kaya, "Good day ma'am, how may I assist you today?"

Kaya looked around the place playing it off as if she was admiring the grand setup and its old but vintage style. "If I may would it be possible to speak to your manager?" Kaya asked her voice manipulated into a flirtatious Spanish accent.

He looked up to Kaya and locked his eyes with hers, "And if I may ask ma'am, why?"

"I'm interested in discussing an open position here," Kaya replied smoothly.

He sighed, conceding. "I'll call him down for you."

As Kaya smiled, she glanced over her shoulder-only to be surprised by Alex's unexpected appearance. Her son and mother followed closely behind him. Meanwhile, the hotel manager approached from the opposite direction. The two passed Kaya and ascended the stairs, her focus shifted from the two towards the hotel manager standing on the other side of the check-in desk.

"So you said you are looking for a job?"

Kaya smiled at him and replied, "Yes, I need this job at the deepest."

He took a sigh and asked taking his pen out from the desk, "What is your name?"

Her smile fades as she lies, "Veronica... Veronica Acosta."

He writes down her name on a sticky note, rips it off, and hands it to Kaya over the desk. 'Please take this, we will talk with the other hotels in the nearby area and be of sure you will have a place to work in the next day or two."

"Oh, wh-what is the problem?"

"We are full, we just hired a recruit and... yeah... I- I am incredibly sorry but we cannot hire anyone new at this point."

Kaya nodded and said, "If it is possible, could I maybe leave my number just in case a spot opens up?"

"Sure," he replied, handing over the sticky notes and pen. Kaya writes her phone number and hands the sticky note and pen back to the manager. She turned around and exited the building and off she went back to the route she came, after she passed the bar she was stopped in her tracks when her name was called.

She turned around and saw that it was Lucas sitting outside at one of the tables, "That went well, didn't it." He said sarcastically.

She sighed and sat across from him staring him in the eyes, Lucas on the other hand placed his hands beneath his chin and teased, "So, what's the plan, my dear."

Kaya sat back in her chair and replied, "I'll open my spot."

Lucas smiled at Kaya knowing her plan, she would have gone this route sooner than later.

Hours have passed and the sun has set, the lights have been lit and the moon shined over the waters in the canal. Sitting on one of the chairs at the closed cafe Kaya looked out at the Ponte Tre Ponti bridge and the lit lights on each side. She took a breath and stood from her chair walking back towards the hotel which denied her a spot.

Walking over the bridge and through the darkness she reached the hotel. Looking out at the lights in the rooms Kaya looked around her making sure nobody was around. She placed her hands on one of the bricks and tried to climb the wall, her grip was off and her sneakers were slippery.

Trying she lost her grip and slipped from her sneakers breaking her fall. Grunting on the floor she helped herself and felt a sting on her palm. Looking at her palm in the dim light she saw the blood oozing out from the wound. She turned back and stopped when she noticed the black metal fence, again looking around she started to climb the gate.

One foot after the other she made her way into the outside restaurant of the hotel. Looking around she slowly makes her way through the tables she reaches the back of the hotel. She went up to a window and tried to open it from the outside. Kaya struggled and saw the dim light from the small window in the door. She walked up to the door and tried to open it, with no surprise it was locked.

Kaya grew frustrated and tried to look through the glass, seeing the woman on the other side of the desk sitting back in the chair. Kaya looked around for the last time and knocked. while knocking she grabbed the receptionist's attention from the other side and continued until she stood up. Noticing she walked towards the door Kaya grabbed the door handle and vigorously shoved it up and down as if she was running from someone who was after her.

She heard the door being unlocked and when it was opened Kaya jumped the woman, trying not to make a loud noise she knew it wouldn't matter over the noise-canceling walls until she screamed. Struggling on the floor the woman escaped Kaya's grasp and tried to run towards the check-in desk but failed as her heel broke, making her fall to the floor and hitting her face.

Kaya helped herself to her feet and walked over to the woman, she turned her over and looked at her, her nose was bleeding and dripping on the floor, noticing that she was about to scream Kaya pushed her hand down against her mouth cutting the scream short.

Using her other hand Kaya brought her finger up to her mouth mimicking her to shut her mouth. Looking around said to the receptionist lying on the ground, "Make one fucking noise and I'll have more than your tongue."

Kaya took her hand away and stood to her feet, took the receptionist by the leg, and started to drag her away. Reaching the small living area Kaya felt a sharp sting in her leg making her tumble to the ground letting go of the receptionist's legs. Looking up she saw a pen sticking in her leg the logo of the hotel embroidered on it. Wincing she used one of the barstools to help her to her feet and saw the woman limping out into the light. She felt a glass in her reach took it and threw it at the woman.

as the glass hit the back, it broke making her fall to the ground, crying. Limping up to her and turning her over on her back, out of breath Kaya tried to get a hold of her neck but with all of her fiddling and struggling she quickly grabbed a piece of glass, and slashed her arm making her scream in agony. Cutting the scream short Kaya looked at the piece of glass in her hand, it was bloody. it was a mess around them, the blood that oozed out of her throat made Kaya feel relieved.

Sitting back on the floor Kaya tried to rip the pen out of her leg but failed and heard a door open next to her. It was a housemaid, she looked at the scene, the broken glass and Kaya out of breath. Her heart pounded at the sight and she ran towards the backdoor, struggling to open it Kaya sighed and came to her feet the glass shard still in her hand.

The housemaid struggled and looked over her shoulder, screaming for help Kaya moved closer to her and finally dared to pull the pen out of her leg. Again the housemaid looked over her shoulder the tears streaming down her face punching the door to open.

her cries echoed through the hall, the sticking thuds were heard from outside, the blood on the floor stopped and grew cold, and split seconds later the hotel grew silent...

"Way to fucking go... my darling."
