Watching as the sun rose from its slumber Kaya sat at the restaurant table waiting for it to open. Her hotel was only a few feet away, her sinister deeds a mere millimeters in front of her.

The rays of the sun reflect on the canal. The small waves crashing down on the sides and the sounds and the seagulls squawking as they fly over the city. These mother nature elements didn't calm Kaya for what she had done.

Her boss was the one who had done the wrong, he was the one who wanted to fuck her, and he made the first move. But Kaya knew that holding him captive was a mistake, but letting him go would be worse.

She stood up from the seat and walked back to the hotel, up the stairs, and back to her room she took a breath and opened the door quickly closing it behind her before her captive could scream.

Sqhe took another breath and walked down the room and saw him, his hands were tied to his back against the bed on one of the bed posts. He was wide awake and Kaya had worried for nothing as she released she taped his mouth shut.

She could remember how she tied his hands with the zip tie she had stolen from the staff room and placed a bathroom robe on his back covering his half-naked body.

She walked towards him and saw the duck tape lying on the makeup table, she sighed and said in a low whisper, "I am going to peel the tape off, so don't make a sound I just want to talk."

His dark eyes glistened from the morning sun breaking through the curtains. She took the edge of the tape and peeled it off gently. She throws it at the trash can next to the bed and when he saw his chance Lupo screamed but his cry was cut short when Kaya thrusts her finger into the back of his throat making him gag and vomit on the white sheets.

Kaya tried to stay calm and walked over to the bathroom washing her hands. She took a face wash towel and made it wet enough to clean Lupo's mess on the bed.

She came back and looked at Lupo, he was drained and weak. "I just want to talk," Kaya asked again starting to clean the bits of food lying on the sheets.

"About what? Killing me?" Lupo said aggressively.

Kaya took the back to the bathroom and rinsed it adding, "It won't help you if you are aggressive Victor, you are making things only-" she was cut off by Lupo asking, "How do you know my name?"

Kaya sighed and walked back to stand in front of him saying, "Look at me."

He didn't move, until she took him by the face and cleaned the vomit around the corners of his mouth continuing, "It is not theft if your wallet was on the floor in my room."

She threw the towel on the floor after cleaning his mouth and took a seat on the chair next to the bed, "But that is not why I am here, that is why I wanted to talk to you but your dick had other plans."

Victor looked at Kaya in the eyes, "I want you to give me Higgins's room number."

His eyebrows raised, "What? W-we don't have anyone at the hotel with that surname."

"Jenna? Jenna Higgins? She had a small boy with her."

"W-wait do you mean Valentina Artigas?"

"Wait!? Valentina?"

"Yes! She had a six, maybe seven-year-old boy with her when she returned from Greece to visit her family."

"Her family?" Kaya questioned in a surprised tone, she couldn't recall when her mother mentioned having any relatives in Italy. Did her mother have two separate lives? Things were escalating fast, faster Kaya thought.

She returned to reality and locked eyes with Victor, "Are you taking me for a fool?"

"No! No! I swear! She said she was visiting her family, but when she told one of the receptionists that her family wasn't in town I knew she would stay until she got her hands on her family."

"When are they returning?" Kaya asked desperately.

"I-I don't know, but I don't have anything to do with the Artigas family-"

"Why?"

"You don't know how powerful they are. They could put me out of business. I could lose my job. Anything that crosses their path, they destroy. I'm not willing to risk it."

"How powerful are they?" Kaya asked.

Victor glanced at her, avoiding the question.

"How powerful?" she pressed.

Victor sighed and finally answered, "They're powerful. That's all I know."

"Cut the act, Victor," Kaya said, her tone sharp. "You said they could ruin you, take down your hotel empire. I'm asking you again-how powerful are they?"

"They're maniacs," Victor admitted. "The Artigas family... they're filthy rich psychos. They'll do anything for their family-kill, even slaughter the people of Venice like animals."

"Why are they so powerful?" Kaya asked.

"They own the Zynephin," Victor replied his voice dropping low.

Zynephin-the banned painkiller that had fueled their empire. The FDA had turned a blind eye, but the streets hadn't. Kaya's mind raced, connecting the dots. How had her mother become entangled with these ruthless figures?

Her back against the door, Kaya tried to control her breathing knowing that if she didn't find Alex soon, it meant she wouldn't see him ever again, if the Artigas family sounded so cruel and viscous it meant Kaya had nothing to do with it and has one less problem on her hands. She already placed her life in danger by killing the receptionist and putting her boss in captivity. She cannot handle more blood on her hands than there already is.

She calmed herself and rose to her feet walking back into the room and looking at Victor, "I am going to free you." she stated bluntly.

Victor raised a brow asking, "What's it in for me?"

Kaya sighed as she took a knife from the kitchen and released Victor from the zip ties on the bed posts, "You are going to give me Valentinas room number, since I am working for you I want to get into that room so that I can get my son back, if you dare to report me to the police I will be sure your tongue gets cut, do you understand?" Kaya asked holding the knife near his throat.

Victor locked eyes with Kaya and climbed off the bed, looking up at him he took Kaya by the cheeks his palms soft and warm. sneakily he takes the knife out of her hand which was positioned on his abdomen and throws it on the floor, "D-do you understand?" Kaya asked softly.

He leans in closely his breath on Kaya's face, "Yes... I do." Victor said in a whisper. Kaya locked eyes with him and felt his hands crawling up on her back, she closed in on him and felt the warmth of his body until she felt his hands unclipped her bra. The sensation she felt was coming to rise. How he kissed her neck, how he breathed it was everything she had wanted, everything Lucas wouldn't gift her too.

While he kissed her neck she looked over at the empty bed, or thats what she thought. While feeling Victor's body moving against hers in a rhythmic maneuver she saw how Lucas sat on the side looking at them.

Her dream, the passion, the lust broken by one single face, the air changed, her demeanor and mindset... turned darker, darker than the night she was betrayed.
