Chapter 20

After a bit Sam woke up and Nkenchi was still sleeping. Sam sat up and got up but falls, "fuck" Sam mumbled. Nkenchi heard the noise and woke up, looking down at Sam and laughing sleepily, "You okay?" "i'm fine...i can't feel my legs" Nkenchi laughed more and stood up, picking up Sam "Where were you trying to go darlin'?" "Bathroom" Nkenchi nods and carries him to the bathroom and puts him on the edge of the tub. Sam then starts the water, wanting a shower. Nkenchi walks out and starts cooking breakfast. Sam tries his best to stay standing but he falls and breaks his arm since he fell on it. Nkenchi walks over to the bathroom and knocks on the door "Sam? Are you okay in there??" "No, i fell and my arm hurts so fucking bad!" Nkenchi opens the door "What do you mean, how bad??" Nkenchi says, slightly panicked. "Like it was hit by a bullet train" Sam said. "Jesus christ..." Nkenchi turned the water off and picked Sam up, wrapping him in a towel and putting him on the bed. Sam just sat there, holding his arm. Nkenchi went to get a first aid kit and came back, starting to tend to Sam's arm. Sam sighs and waits. "Okay, all done" Nkenchi says, handing Sam an Advil and some water. Sam takes it, "how would this help without a doctor's help" Sam said. "I don't know, but we don't have a doctor right now, so this is the best we can do" Nkenchi said, sighing. "I know someone who's a doctor, he'll help" Sam said. Nkenchi nods and gets him and Sam dressed, waking the kids up and telling them to get dressed after. Sam was waiting by the door, sitting. After everyone was dressed, Eri and Kota picked up the twins and Nkenchi picked up Sam, following his directions to get to this doctor's house. Sam was talking to Nkenchi the whole time. They eventually got to the house and Nkenchi knocked on the door. A very tall man then cracked the door, "what do you want, i don't have anything" The guy said. "Hey dad" (adopted dad of course) Sam said. "Oh Samuel" The guy said, opening the door more. "What happened?!" He yelled. "He uhm... He fell in the shower-" Nkenchi answered quietly, feeling slightly intimidated. "And broke my arm..." Sam said. "Jesus Crist Samuel, this is the 3rd time already" The guy said. "Wha?-" Nkenchi looked down at Sam with a 'what is he talking about?-' face. "The first time was when I was 12, the second time, on the same arm was when I was 16 and there's now...on the same arm..." "How- How the fuck do you break the same arm three times?-" "i don't know man, it just happens" Sam said. Nkenchi shook his head, laughed a little and gently put Sam on the couch. Sam's dad went to get the stuff for his arm. Nkenchi got on his knees and started to take off the makeshift splint he made for Sam. Sam just sat there, slightly embarrassed. Nkenchi finished and smiled, sitting on the couch next to him. After a while Sam's dad finally comes back. Nkenchi paid no mind as Eri and Kota were handing him the twins, who were crying. Sam's dad then deals with the arm as Sam looks at the babies. Nkenchi stiffened a little bit as Eri and Kota gave him the twins. He positioned them in a way that they were both laying on his stomach and he just rocked them a little and hummed to them. He looked so proud of himself when they finally fell asleep. Sam chuckles as he saw the face. Nkenchi got up and put the twins on another couch to lay down, using his jacket to make them a little barrier so they couldn't fall off and he turned around to sit back down next to Sam, celebrating and hyping himself up quietly. "There, that should be good until it's time for the cast, but as of right now, stay a while, i made tea if you like some." Sam's dad said. Nkenchi looked over and smiled a little and Eri gasped "Tea party!!!!" She screamed softly. Nkenchi looked even more happy when she said that. Sam's dad laughed a little and went to the kitchen. Nkenchi and Eri left to go back to the hotel and came back with a little china tea party set, it was real glass and stuff so Eri was holding it like her life depended on it and she set the table to everyone all by herself. "Good job honey" Sam said. Eri smiled and waited for the tea to be done. Alex comes out with the tea. "I wanna pout it, I wanna pour it!!!!" Eri squeals, jumping up and down. "Calm down Eri" Sam said. Eri nods and sits down, calming herself down a little. Sam's dad then pours the tea in the cups. Eri squeals more and Nkenchi goes in his bag and pulls out some macarons he brought from the hotel and puts them on the table. Sam's dad then sat down on the floor. Nkenchi looks over at Sam "You want tea, mi amor?" Sam then nods, not wanting to break Eri's heart. Nkenchi gets up and walks over, picking Sam up and sitting him at the table. Sam then smiles and waits. Eri picks up the teapot and carefully pours Sam some tea. Sam watches as Eri does. Eri crosses her legs to look more grown up and sips her tea. Sam slowly sips his tea too, so does Sam's dad. Nkenchi does the same, picking up a macaron to eat too. Everyone was enjoying the tea party. "So, abuelo, how have you beens?" Eri asks, turning to Alex. Alex smiles,
"He estado bien, ¿y tú?" Alex said. Eri gasps, being happy to be able to practice her Spanish "¡Estoy bien! Papá acaba de tener bebés y lloran mucho, así que estoy un poco cansada todo el tiempo..." She says, putting her head down and blowing raspberries. Alex chuckles, "eso es muy comprensible" Alex said. Eri smiled and stuck her tongue out and put the back of her hand on her head, leaning back dramatically. Alex raises an eyebrow and looks at Sam who shrugged. "Y' know, being a big sister is fun but babies cry. A LOT." "Eri, so did you when you were a baby" "I did not!!" "Eri sweetheart, i helped raise you in the lab you were at, yes you did" "I refuse to believe!!" Sam then pulled out a picture to show her. "Oooo! I was a cute baby!" "yes you were Eri" Sam also looked younger in the picture too. Nkenchi just continued drinking his tea, smiling at the picture and the ruckus. Sam yawns and sits back, putting his head on Nkenchi's shoulder. "Sleepy?" Nkenchi asked, sipping away. "Mhm" Sam hummed. Alex chuckled, "I remember you two used to hate each other, and here you are now, about to get married" Alex said, smiling. "Shut your trap" Nkenchi sneered playfully. Alex chuckled again and gets up. Nkenchi gets up too, picking up Sam and sits on the couch, then laying down to cuddle him. Sam was sleeping peacefully, clinging to Nkenchi. Nkenchi smiled and hummed, softly kissing Sam's cheeks and the top of his head. Eri awwwed and Kota rolled his eyes. "Kota, if you ever find a significant other while this shit is going on, I'm gonna do the same thing. Roll my eyes at you." Kota then rolls his eyes again. "Whatever" Nkenchi told his eyes back and goes back to kissing Sam. After an hour Sam wakes up. Nkenchi was awake and on his phone, still humming. Sam then yawns and stretches. Nkenchi looks at him and smiles softly, ruffling his hair "Good evening" Sam looks around, he forgot they were at his dad's place. "What's wrong? We're at Alex's house." "yea, I saw that, it took me a minute to remember." "Oh, okay." Nkenchi went back to whatever he was doing on his phone. Sam looks, being nosey. He was texting someone, the contact name being 'Dias 🥺'. "Who's Dias?" Sam said. "My- He's my brother" Sam then got confused, "what did you change your wording" "Because I wanted to make it a full sentence instead of 'my brother'" "you could have just said my brother instead of that" "I'm aware, I just wanted to give you a full answer, is there something so wrong with that?" "I don't remember you having a brother named Dias" "you've only met Izzy and Leslie, you didn't know I had any brothers" "Izzy told me about your brothers, and they're not named that" "I know, Dias is a nickname. Where are all of these questions coming from??" "the fact that you've always been distant ever since i saw that name on your phone" "What name??" "Dias! Nkenchi!" "So just now? I've been distant since not even 5 minutes ago??" "Nkenchi, i've seen that name popped up, i think they called you baby at one point" "Yea, he said baby, but not to me" "Mhm..." "Do you just like, not trust me? Like I can read you the messages." "No, it's fine i guess" "Okay Sammy, whatever you say." Nkenchi sighed and went back to texting, laughing a little. Sam was sad, but hides it. A few minutes later, Nkenchi put his phone away and closed his eyes, not going to sleep but just kinda laying there. It's been a few days and Sam notices how more distant Nkenchi's been. He's on his phone a lot of the time, just texting away. "Baby, um foods done, can you put that away please" "Yea yea okay I'll be over there in a sec" Sam nods and walks off. A few minutes later, Nkenchi makes himself some food and sits at the table, still texting. "Nkenchi- !" Sam was then cut off. Nkenchi's phone rang and he laughed a little "Hold on baby I gotta take this" He answered and walked away. Sam started to cry but tried not too, looking at the wedding ring, they were gonna get married in a month. "Papa? Are you okay??" Eri asked, tilting her head a little. "I'm fine dear just um, mood swings i guess" Sam said, fake smiling. "Oh... okay..." Sam then waits for Nkenchi, picking at his own food. Nkenchi walks back and the person on the phone is screaming at him, Nkenchi didn't look phased by it in the slightest. "NKENCHI. YOU KNOW I FUCKING HATE THAT NAME- WHY WOULD YOU PUT IT AS MY CONTACT?!" "Okay okay okay" "YOU'RE NOT EVEN LIST-" "OKAYYYY bye Dias!!" "SHUT THE FUCK U-" And that's when Nkenchi hung up and sat back down, starting to eat his food. Sam was still picking at his food, thinking. Nkenchi didn't really seem to notice until a few minutes later "Sam? You okay??" "hm? Oh yea, i'm fine" Sam said, doing the same smile he used on Eri. "Sam, you're a really bad liar sometimes." "It's nothing, I promise" Nkenchi sighed. "Okay" His phone starts ringing again and he snickers, ignoring it. "Are you gonna pick that up? "No, Dias is just pissed off" Nkenchi turned his ring volume all the way down. Sam nods and eats. Nkenchi finished his food quickly and puts his plate in the sink, typing as he walked. Sam watches and gets up too, going to their shared room. Nkenchi didn't notice and walked in too "Oh, sorry" He said, then walked out. Sam was about to say something but couldn't say he just lays down, curling up carefully, being careful of his tummy. A few hours later Nkenchi was curled up in a ball on the couch, still texting his ass off. Sam wakes up do to the light of the phone and looks at the phone. They were sending pictures of themselves and roasting the life out of each other. Sam got confused, why would they send pictures to each other? They didn't even look like siblings at all. Nkenchi was chuckling to himself, groaning at the person's responses. Sam then sighs quietly and turns back over and goes back to sleep. Nkenchi eventually falls asleep too, phone-in-hand.
