🌠 Twilight🌠
Second week at Canterlot High, and I've already managed to adapt well to the school routine. Of course, the presence of five wonderful girls helped me a lot; I feel at home even in the crowded hallways. As I walked towards the main entrance, I took the opportunity to read the synopsis of the new science fiction book my mother had sent me. The book arrived earlier today, and I haven't had time to read it yet, but I fell in love with its premise. It was about a dystopian future where humanity struggled to survive in a world devastated by environmental disasters caused by an ancient mythological being awakened by a multimillion-dollar company in search of crystals. A group of friends with powers connected to nature had to unexpectedly unite to fight against the forces of evil.
I was so engrossed that I wasn't paying attention to where I was going until I felt a strong impact, finding myself face-first into someone's back. I almost fell on my butt. The impact made me drop the book, which landed with a dull thud.
-Are you okay there?- A familiar voice sounded lightly. I smiled before lifting my eyes, facing a pair of bright blue eyes staring at me. Flash, his playful smile forming on his lips, handed me the fallen book.
-Sorry, Flash!- I said, nervously laughing, accepting the book, hugging it to my chest. -I didn't see you.
-No worries,- Flash said with a broad smile, the kind of smile that lit up his whole face. -I guess we should stop meeting like this.
I let out a light chuckle, agreeing, while at the same time feeling a strange tingling in my stomach, as if butterflies were fluttering around. Flash, seeming oblivious to my strange sensations, looked at the book in my arms, tilting his head with interest.
-What are you reading that's so interesting?
-It's a science fiction book about a dystopian future. My mom sent it to me; she knows I love this kind of stuff.
-Cool. I like stories like that too. Maybe you could lend it to me when you're done?
My heart raced a little more than usual, a strange sensation, but at the same time, so good.
-Sure, no problem. I'll let you know when I finish,- I replied, trying to sound casual. I don't know why I can't act normally around him. Maybe I should mention this to the girls; they might be able to help me.
-Have you read Neuromancer?- Flash asked, bringing me back to the present. I smiled happily at the question, by the way.
-Yes! It's one of my favorites. Wilko Gibplis's vision of the future is fascinating, the way he manages to connect all the current ideas and turn them into reality, I think it's incredible!
-Exactly! Especially the idea of an interconnected cybernetic world!- Flash leaned against the nearest locker, his eyes seeming to wander in nostalgia and happiness as he spoke about the author. -I really appreciate Wilko and his ideas a lot. You know, I'm always looking for new ways to apply these futuristic ideas in real life.
-Well...- I leaned against his side, feeling my cheeks slightly hurt with my smile widening. -Looks like we have one more thing in common. I had a small robotics workshop in my old house; I miss it. Now I'm fixing up my room to be able to build a simple clock.
Flash's eyes widened with surprise and joy at his smile. -Wait, are you participating in the workshop here in Canterlot?
-I am. I saw that this year's theme was clocks, and I thought, why not?
-I thought the same!- Flash glanced away from me to the ground; his eyebrows curved over his eyes, a little, as if he were thinking about something. -Look, the competition doesn't have to be individual... Maybe we could team up?
