''Come one Clara, you disappear for months and wont even come out this once?'' I complained through to the other side of the phone.
Me and Clara had practically best friends since meeting at college and when the time came for University, barley left each others sides on the off chance our schedules lined up. Even after an unfortunate fire on my flat building, for the past three months, Clara had let me stay at hers until I was able to find a new place.
It was fair to say that as far as friends go, we were extremely inseparable - or well, we used to be.
It was no question that something was going on in her life, since perhaps a year ago I would pin point it to. The missed calls, weeks on end of barely getting a message back if we weren't so close I would have gotten to the conclusion she wanted to pull away from me, focus on a more 'settled' lifestyle she talked about. Yet it felt like a compete contrast to that.
Especially now since living with her, if she wasn't going out for a few days with a man named 'The Doctor', it was like she could leave a room for 2 minutes, and when she comes back she's trying to catch herself up on anything that could have happened in those last few minutes, as if her entire body clock was constantly disorientated.
This 'Doctor' however - handsome to her, although I hadn't seen him yet, even when I tried to interrogate her on the real reason she was so absent - nothing.
''I know, I know but - I'm just, away, at the minute so-'' she tried to explain, but I had gotten used to the excuses she tried to feed to me, and recently it was getting tiering.
''Your always away Clara-'' I sighed interrupting her.
''- look, if you just need your own space back and want me to move out just say the words and I'm gone'' continuing, I think at this point I would have preferred a more unfortunate truth then have us carry on the way her distancing was making me feel - like I no longer had the one person I could go to.
''Y/n don't be so stupid, you know me and the Doctor, we - we got to these places, abroad, and you know, flights right now are crazy, and I'm sorry I haven't told you I was going away this week but-'' she rambled, making me furrow my eyebrows at the most obvious issue I still had no answer to.
''- Like you forgot to last week, and the week before''
''Y/n I-''
''-and that's another thing, this doctor - who doesn't ever seem to have an actual name, how did you even meet him? Are you even safe? We used to tell each other everything, what's happened - you know you can tell me if your in trouble right'' I tried to breath out as fast as possible.
It was something that always nagged at the back of my head, either she didn't want to talk anymore, and maybe I should just suck that up and move on - or something seriously wrong was going on behind the scenes.
''What, Y/n, of course I'm safe just-'' she laughed through the other side of the phone.
Stopping half way as I listened closely to the muffled voice, almost as if they where in a heated debate, clearly reassuring my previous worry.
''- look, Ill be back at the flat tonight and we can go out and I will explain everything'' she finished, as I signed in response.
''Great'' I muttered, of course her instructions where bleak, but she was clearly willing to tell me something big, something that would make my mind be put at ease these disappearing acts she finding herself in.
