CHAPTER TEN.
narrative and instagram

I laid on the couch in our living room. I have an oversized Iowa hoodie on, Nike pros, and a large blanket covering me. I had gotten all unready (my makeup still intact) after Asher told me that she was practically bailing on our two year anniversary date. Now, I get to spend the night watching Jennifer Jareau on my screen as criminal minds plays. Sounds fine to me.

The door to our apartment opens. I know that Everett and Benny are out together right now, so it must either be Mia, Hudson, or someone on the basketball team to just come around for a visit. Everyone just sort of walks into our apartment at times. We've grown accustomed to it.

I don't really pay attention who walks into the living room, too busy sulking and too focused on my show.

"Dais?" I hear Mia say and I finally look up, spotting Kate and Caitlin here too. Fortunately, I don't look too horrible. I didn't cry (almost did, but I kept it together) when Asher said what she did. "I thought you and Asher were going out. It's your anniversary."

I sigh. "Apparently, she has cheer practice and didn't tell me."

"You guys confirmed plans yesterday. You told me all about it," Caitlin says, arms crossed with a confused look on her face.

"I know."

Mia shakes her head. "That's super shitty."

I shrug. "Yeah, well, now I have Jennifer Jareau and the BAU to keep me company," I say, turning back to the TV.

Kate and Mia make their way to Kate's bedroom, leaving Caitlin and I in the living room. She lets out a sigh, walking toward me. She grabs the remote from the coffee table. "Caitlin," I begin to protest, but she turns off the TV anyway.

"Go get ready. We're gonna do something," she says.

I shake my head. "Caitlin, I really don't feel-,"

"Go."

Rolling my eyes, I stand up from my spot and make my way toward my bedroom. I slip on a pair of jeans and a black long sleeved shirt. Once I'm done getting ready, I step back out, spotting Caitlin in her jeans and t-shirt sitting on the arm of the couch.

"Are we going or not, Clark?" I question.

She looks at me, seeming to stop whatever she was going to do. Her eyes rake over my outfit and I just sigh.

"Yeah, come on."

I follow her out of the apartment, down to her car. "So where are we going?" I ask.

"Surprise. You'll have to wait and see," she says.

The two of us go quiet as she drives.

I settle into the passenger seat and I watch as the world passes through the window as she drives. We haven't been in a car just the two of us since we were dating but it feels like normal which I think is odd.
