The few hours after the award ceremony consisted of receiving congratulations from total strangers. People of wide variety came around the trailer just to speak with Alex and see his horse. It was a lot to take in, but his mind wasn't there as much as it should have been in the first place.
After all the socialites finished coming around, Alex got Murphy situated with hay and water before checking the time. The competition had started at six, and went on for the next forty minutes. With all of the commotion following, this led it to be seven thirty in the evening.
The following half an hour entailed Alex wandering around the grounds. In that time, he bumped into everyone else. Nathan and Skylar, Jackie and Cole, even his dad. Quite literally everyone besides (Y/n). Cole and Jackie ended up joining in his search, attempting to calm his nerves as they did.
"You know, the concert is about to start. I bet they're already there." Cole speaks up when Alex returns to his phone, seeing the couple of messages he tried to send out to her had failed to go through once again. The reception through the patches of trees was nonexistent, unfortunately. Which meant she hadn't even a clue he was looking for her.
"Alright," Alex caves in tirelessly, "I guess we can head over there and try to find them before the concert begins." Just as he finishes speaking, a voice blares through the speakers off in the distance and Alex turns on a dime to see everyone rushing off.
"We better hurry then. It sounds like the opening act is starting."
~~~~~
Just waiting in line to hand over their tickets and retrieve their wristbands takes up the entirety of the opening act. The enormous cluster of people has them weaving their way around each individual, trying to get in quicker. Music occupies the vicinity, making it impossible for Alex to hear himself think. There are hundreds of people already here, and with even more filing into the once open field. If (Y/n) and Dylan were there for the opener, they would be towards the front of the stage, and that was going to be tricky to reach by this point. Seeming as the main concert of Randy Houser has already started.
The base thrums through the air and reverberates through his bones. Flashing lights of blue and red girate through the cloud banks emitting from fog machines. People are already dissolving, becoming a part of the atmosphere. Dancing and jumping around, they succumb to the music that floods the area.
Alex has surpassed the back of the field and has now begun to force his way through the thick sea of people. The most crowded portion was up at the front of the stage, numerous rows of men and women arching around to get a good view of the entertainers. So far, Alex has small clearings free of people to recollect himself before diving back in.
"Alex! Wait up!" Cole hollers out, keeping a firm grasp of Jackie's hand while pulling her in front of him upon reaching the overcrowded vicinity. He likely did this to make sure she didn't get trampled behind him.
Alex throws a glance over his shoulder, ensuring that his brother is close on his heel before swerving around a blissful couple. They are happily singing along to the current song, one Alex isn't familiar with. He trudges forward with his entourage close behind, who continue calling after him in hope he will slow down. He doesn't.
The first song has ended and Randy begins to work the crowd with his charismatic words. Alex hardly pays attention, focusing on reaching the front. With each person he passes by, he steals glimpses of them. Nobody registers as who he is searching for. The longer it takes for him to find her, the further his heart makes its way into his throat.
The fans began to cheer when a guitar riff led into the next song. Alex immediately registers it as Goodnight Kiss.
He draws closer to the front, discovering a newfound appreciation of his rather short height compared to most. While Cole is having a difficult time maneuvering around everyone, Alex is able to glide through with a sense of ease and grace. Although, this could have to do with the fact that, when he has his mind set to something, it is hardly deterred. Finding (Y/n) right now is all that occupies his mind, overriding the words to the song as it reaches its first bridge.
