Chapter 6: Monty's

Not having Danny around, and Alex and Cole not being on speaking terms, really sucked. It means that you are stuck at the house, unable to go anywhere until George or Katherine return.

You and Alex end up retreating to the living room, going head to head in combat on Smash Bros. Something that felt so natural, neither of you thought of the drama earlier. It was like the good old days. Just (y/n) and Alex. As it should be.

"And that's twice!" You exclaim out of pride as you beat him in another battle and he groans, throwing his head back while plopping the remote into his lap. "Admit defeat and I won't have to keep embarrassing you, Wrangler." You tease with a smug grin plastered across your face. Alex hurriedly looks over to you, rolling his eyes.

"I'm just playing nice as a welcome home present." as he attempts to play it close to the belt. The way he says it makes you giggle.

"The Alex Walter I know doesn't play nice. He doesn't hold back for anyone. So, either you are an imposter, or, you are actually losing." You continue to banter off of each other for quite some time before you hear the front door open and close. Heavy footsteps sound before George comes into view around the corner and smiles at you.

"Katherine told me you'd be here." He said. You smile sincerely before nodding your head, waving at him.

"Hi, Mr. Walter."

"(Y/n), we've been through this. Call me George." He says with a sincere chuckle before his eyes land on Alex. The smile immediately drops as the two watch one another for a short time. It was obvious he was still mad at him over the previous fight with Cole.

"Alex, can you grab Nathan and bring in the groceries?"

"Yeah." Alex stands up gradually, his head now held down as he walks past his father and heads outside to find the others. Last you heard, they were going to go out to swim in the pool for a bit.

"I'm sure you've been caught up on the recent Walter drama?" He questions. When you nod your head, he sighs and looks to the door.

"It's all going to work out. They're brothers." You try to reassure him. The continuous frown on his face tells you he doesn't believe your words. You stand up and go to help the others when George gently rests his hand on your shoulder and you meet his eyes.

"Thank you. For always being there for him," he speaks in a softened tone, "I know he can be a handful-"

"Not for me," you quickly jab in, "I'm happy to be there for him. He's a great guy. One you should be proud of."

Your words seem to strike a little deeper than intended; but you meant it. Alex was a wonderful guy, much like the rest of them. They all were different and reacted to things in their own ways, but that goes for any other family. It's just a bit more trying when there's more in one household.

George finds himself smiling at you and nods before letting you go. When you make it outside, you find Alex and Nathan hauling handfuls of brown plastic bags up the steps.

"Any left for me?" You ask.

"Not if we have anything to say about it," Alex chimes in cheerfully, "there's no such thing as 'second trips' to the car."

"We ain't no 'one-trip pussies.'" Nathan jokes.

You let out a snort, shaking your head before following them back inside and begin to help unload everything in the kitchen with them.

"Hey, why don't we ask your dad if he can take us to Monty's?" You ask, pulling out a box of cereal and turning to place it in a cupboard. You still knew this house so well, even after being away continuously. It was your second home, after all.
