I soon heard a knock on the front door, so I rushed down to open it. When I got there, I saw Caius. He was standing with a small box of dark chocolates.“Welcome to my wonderful house, you say dumb shit, and I’ll fight you.” Ashi was already rubbing against him like the little needy thing she was.
“Ashi, what have I said about whoring ourselves out to pretty men? Come on baby girl.” I mockingly scolded her.
I yelped as my arm was smacked.
“What the hell?” another slap.
“may I ask why you are just so insistant on hitting me?” I yelped, rubbing my now stinging arm. What a bastard.“I don’t appreciate cursing. It’s disrespectful. If you have a problem with me, you can talk it out like a person, not a heathen.” He smiled, then he pressed the box of chocolates into my hands. “its customary to bring a housewarming gift when invited for the first time, yes?”
“oh, uh, I didn’t think so, but if you want to then I suppose it’s all right. Come in, but for the love of God, stop hitting me. I bruise easily.” I showed him the bruises on the back of my hand from his earlier beatings.
“I apologize for causing you harm, but you need to control your mouth. You could lose yourself a lot of jobs and friends for it.” He smirked at me, I couldn’t Believe him, I couldn’t believe a lot about him. Fuck you Caius.
“I want to go over the basis of our project today, nothing to difficult since we have a month for it, but we need to come up with a plan.” I nodded absently.
I knew Caius noticed my quick change of mood.I hated planning. I normally just winged assignments and hoped for the best. I also had to cook dinner.
“are you staying to eat Caius?” I asked suddenly.
“if you’ll have me, yes, it will give us extra time to work.” I opened the fridge and began to pull out some food.
“you start planning while I make us dinner?” I offered. He looked at me almost quizzically. As if what I said made him concerned.
“where are your parents?” he had struck a nerve.I was already sensitive about my mom never being home, but I hated my father also being brought up.
“My parents are divorced, my mother is living with me. She is out late at work.” I felt all my earlier stress return and it pissed me off that it was back, it pissed me off more that I was so desperate for company, good company, that even Caius was enough to keep my mind from straying.
“Did I…bring up a sore topic?” the audacity of him to ask me was incomprehensible, really.
“yes, yes you did bring up a sore subject, now drop it. I don’t want to talk about something like that right now.” I began cooking up some pasta and Alfredo, after pulling out some seasoning. In another pan was some chicken. I could feel tears prick my eyes and I desperately hoped Caius didn’t notice.
I heard the seat move, and then he was behind me.
“Ezra?” I stiffened.
“Caius? Why don’t you go work on the project?” I stirred the pasta and chicken while
intentionally ignoring him. He wasn’t worth it. He didn’t need to hear anything.“Ezra, look, I’m sorry. I’m not good at this, but I won’t bring your…family up in the future. I suppose.” He looked irritated to me, but what did he have to be mad about?
“don’t even think of acting like you care, just…work on the project. Your apology is accepted. Dinner will be ready soon, is there anything I can help with until then?” the chicken was done, the pasta was getting drained.
