___________________The leaves rustle, fighting against the fast and calm winds. The afternoon sun shined brightly casting an earthly glow on little Izabela as she sat on the pink blanket waiting for her mother to come back.
She fidgeted in excitement. She loved the outdoors: the greenery, the fresh smell, the whistling of the wind. She liked everything about it, but most importantly she loved what she did with her mother outdoors just outside the forest.
It was a bonding thing her and her mother shared. Her mother would take time off her busy day with meetings and phone calls to spend time with her daughter every Wednesday.
She called it 'Mummy and Daughter day'.
Something Izabela grew very attached to. Every Wednesday they would walk the forest to stop by the lake where they would have a bonding picnic.
Sweets. Fruit. Mini cookies. Basically all of Izabela's favorite foods.
Little Izabela squealed as she spotted her mother walking out of the forest holding a heavy picnic basket.
"Mummy! Hurry up, I'm hungry!" Izabela squealed between giggles. Her mother gave her a tight smile, Izabela not really recognizing the emotion behind it as she was just excited to be getting her favorite foods.
Her mother sat down the basket as little Izabela quickly dug into it but stopped letting out a quiet gasp. She slowly pulled out a rose gold necklace that had a circle pendant on it.
The girl looked at her mother with awe. The little girl had never seen something so beautiful before. "Mummy what's this?" Izabela asked. The mother smiled. "It's something you can remember me by—you see the little engraving on the inside? It says, 'For my little girl, whatever you do don't give up'. It's just something I want you to always remember. To remember me by."
Izabela looked at the teary eyed woman with confusion. "Remember you by? But Mummy, you're not going anywhere—you're right here, see." Little Isabela said, lightly tapping her mother's leg giggling to herself.
Her mother gave her a sad smile.
"Oh my sweet darling, Mummy loves you."
Izablea jolted up into a sitting position, taking in her surroundings. Her brown hair stuck to her forehead as a light layer of sweat covered her body. The early morning dawn shined through her window as she let out quick breaths.
Realizing it was all just a dream, Izabela brought her legs up to her chest hugging them for dear life as a much needed sob left her lips.
"No..." she croaked out, her voice dry and cracking from not having spoken a thing. "I'm sorry mum, I s-should've helped y-you." Izabela buried her head into her knees as her body shook with every sob she let out. Her shaky hands went to tug at the necklace that was supposed to be there but ended up picking at her fragile skin.
